Hey everyone,
I was on youtube just now watching Gerdicks swims and one of the related links was this video by a masters swimmer who was told to have heart damage because of Vioxx use...maybe he's among us? But I thought it was a kinda funny video--I took vioxx for 4years because of my shoulders during high school before it was removed so...I am sure there are the bunch of us out there who have used it as well..

Morgan: this guy is angry with many, many issues and not just with Vioxx. Maybe I can't blame him for going off on it, but he sure is doing well now. It was a very potent drug with some very real problems. Whether or not it deserved to be pulled- that's another debate with lots of judgement required, and it is very hard to get past the bias of anyone who wants to voice an opinion on the subject.
Many people got great relief from this drug. It is not a secret or sinister agent: if you had no obvious effects, don't sweat it. This is a story that, save for the ongoing litigation, is over.
The other message here is to be cautious and informed about the side effects of any medications. There are a number of anti-inflammatory medications which are on the market and widely prescribed which may be just as harmful as Vioxx (though in different ways).
I was on it for a small case of tendonitis on my wrist. yup, same wrist that will be operated on in 10 days. I was still on it when I got pregnant but didn't know it yet. It's been over 2 years and I still wonder what damage that Vioxx did to my son.
I think it made him more adorabler :groovy:

PS he talked about you 2 for quite a while on Sunday. You both made good impressions with him.
I swore off all NSAIDs when I developed hives from taking aspirin. The doctor told me that once you get an allergic reaction to one NSAID, others are likely to trigger similar reactions. I tested this out, taking a couple ibuprofens, and developed a half hour wheezing fit. Decided it was time to take the hint my body was giving me.
Kind of disappointing really b/c until then aspirin and ibuprofen were right there with my vitamins.
But the upside is that I've found supplements that work very well and have none of the side effects.
