Things to do in the water other than "just swim laps"

Here are some things I'm particularly enjoying: -- doing a deep dive off the board, trying to touch then bottom, and then dolphin kicking back to the surface -- doing a bunch of flip turns in a row "on the spot" in the water, rather than off the wall -- anything involving attempting to recover an object (e.g. brick) -- anything involving a pole What are your little quirky things? Or is everyone here so busy training that no one has any fun in the water?

Umm. . . when I was a gymnast and was forced to cross train ballet, I can't begin to tell you how many funny things there were about my doing ballet - beginning with my having to wear blue tights and a big orange beak while pretending to be a bluebird during a play at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. No, surely you were the fox ;)

We pull down the big styrofoam surf board and jump off the diving board running at full speed, the see how far we can ride it. One of the funniest sights I've ever seen was a bunch of middle-aged, naked German doing this at a pool in Hamburg. Men and women, naked as the day they were born, having the time of their lives.
  • The only pole I can think of is the railing that you use to get out of the pool. That could prove technically difficult, in my opinion. I was thinking of the pole in the, heh-hum, "clubs"...
  • Today at the noon masters practice I got to watch some really hot, toned football players do water ballet for an hour. It was incredible to watch. I really got a kick out of it. Everyone was totally SERIOUS. The wall and edge served as the barre, toes were pointed, legs were in unison, arms were held above their heads. All that was missing was the classical music and tutus. AWESOME!! YES! It was a hoot. These big burly...and very serious... guys doing leg lifts and trying to look tough while doing it. You could tell they were out of their comfort zones. I think they are football players who are training at the Suwanee Sports Academy in preparation for trying out for the pros. They came last year too. Alphathree..... what kind of pole are we taliking about here? Please reply.

What is funny about ballet? :dunno: Many pros cross train with ballet too...just not the Jeremy Shockey types... ;) Well getting to watch you dance around in your pink tutu sounds pretty funny to me Rich....but maybe thats just me? LOL! (Only joking now Richie....You know I would never reveal your secret love of ballet in less it was just in jest right?) Newmastersswimmer

    - Drills - I go to the deep end which is almost 6 feet and jump and down. I try to launch myself as high in the air as I can get. Repeat until tired. :bouncing: - Do back dolphins on the surface with fins leading to the occassional back flip. - Swim the length of the pool underwater - Stretch. Stretch legs by holding the edge of the pool. - Do dips in the corner. Make sure not to slip and crack your teeth on the tile.
