What's up with FSN? They cut off the first event... the men's 200M free WR race???
Why couldn't they cut off a semi final or something? Jeez.. what a bummer.
I taped FSN today. I had the same reaction at first but after watching the tape, they did show the 200 free a little bit later on.
Cool! I wonder why they changed the sequence? Weird...
Why would the austrailians cheer?
They would cheer because it was a phenomenal performance. Yes, I'm sure the Aussie crowd would love to see one of their countrymen or Thorpe himself take down the record, but they still appreciate an outstanding performance when they see one.
The Aussies are swim fans first and foremost they do want their countrymen & women to do well, but they appreciate phenomenal swims. It'd be nice if Americans could adopt the same attitude.
Oh I understand all that, I'm just saying it'd be nice ... wow, what a great world record swim that was (or run, or whatever) that guy is awesome, instead of he sucks & is doped up because he/she ISN'T American ... :dunno:
They love swimming...that is why they cheer. A broken WR is a broken WR. A true swimming enthusiast would appreciate the accomplishment regardless of who does it; provided it is done legally.
Lets say that the 2004 olympics was in america and there was a big tv at the pool showing the replays after the race. Would you not boo when a underwater video of kitajima was shown? or would you cheer because he broke an olympic record?
i think matt's comment answers your question... i know i dislike kitajima cause he cheated to win the gold and get the record- your big tv with replays would show that... if he had won it legally, i would have been sad brendan hansen missed out on the gold, but i wouldn't have booed kitajima.
just my :2cents:
