Any swim parents out there? Something the kids might enjoy...swimmers or not.
It's been given some very good reviews.

It's totally appropriate. The more people you can get listening and reading the better right?
Of course, I just don't want to make anyone upset about linking to an outside webpage. I know some sites don't care for that.
I am out of shape... hence not being entered. With that said, it is important to note that I am slowly changing that with the help of Nathan (who knows his personal training quite well). Maybe this summer? Maybe '08. We shall see, but never rule out the possibility of making an appearance and showing you guys how slow is done correctly.
On the 23rd--coinciding with the release of the film--you can catch an interview with PRIDE's director, Sunu Gonera, on the Deck Pass
(I hope it's ok I add that to this conversation. My apologies if it's not.)

Scotty, pick the meet, I'll enter too. The Deck Pass staff shall unite! (for a beer)
"I’m sure it’s a thrilling sport if you’re competing in it, but don’t expect to see swim meets on ESPN any time soon."
You don't think he's biased in any way?
just saw a promo for it on TV. Boy, did it perk up my fins when it came on. Looking forward to going to see it.
I have this image of you walking around your house with fins on all day!:laugh2:
Hmm, the movie critics don't seem to appreciate swimming...

With a story incapable of adding legitimate dramatic tension, Pride is left relying on sports action alone to carry the movie. But this is a swimming, and there’s just nothing exciting about watching the backstroke. First time director Sunu Gonera and cinematographer Matthew Leonetti give it a shot, with cameras above, around, and below the water during competition. It doesn’t help. It’s still just guys flailing around in the water. I’m sure it’s a thrilling sport if you’re competing in it, but don’t expect to see swim meets on ESPN any time soon.

After the one-hour mark, however, the script begins hitting more predictable affirmational-uplift notes, which Gonera just half-heartedly tries to freshen up. There are too many tearily triumphant moments, and the de rigeur climactic match could be more rousing. (Admittedly, competitive swimming isn't the most exciting sport in cinematic terms.) Nonetheless, pic has built up enough goodwill to keep auds stoked to the end.

I don't get to see movies down here until they are DVD released so I do want to see this one.
Lindsay: thanks for all those quotes in your reply and I must say this:
Anyone who thinks backstroke is boring to watch hasn't a clue as to what it takes to actually swim it: 6 beat kick and terrific timing are two that come to mind. And, not being able to see where you are going, only where you have been takes very special people indeed!! Fearless people I might add.

We got to see Pride this weekend too! Very cool movie (and according to Chris, they did a good job of nailing Jim Ellis' character!) I highly recommend it and they did a really decent job with the swim sequences, too. Though it was interesting that the climactic 400 free relay started out with the first swimmers all diving in and doing the start of a breaststroke pullout...
A group of us went to see it and we all noticed that right away ... Terrence Howard did this as well ... :dunno:
Maybe that's what I should try on my next 100 free ...
