I thought I'd try an experiment here. I propose that anyone of any swimming level can use this thread (or not) when, whether in a small way or earthshaking manner you've done something in the pool that you're proud and/or pleased by. Anyone is welcome to add encouraging comments (or not) or ask for more info., but please no grandstanding or feuding.
Okay- I'll go first (and I'm just as hesitant as anyone else). Context: last few months hellish: collapse of my dream business, death in family, huge money troubles etc. result months out of water & exercise & 30lb gain. Further, I just went back over the last 10 yrs, averaged 1 meet a year, no more than 4 months training in any one year. So- been back in water 4 weeks, 2-3 times a week and mostly feeling like chopped liver. Monday night coach say we're going to do dive 25's (meters) from blocks, starter's instructions. Now I haven't done this in years 'cause I have a very bad neck- but I've been frustrated so...did all 3 breastroke 16.3, 15.5, 16.2 which tells me I've still got prospects to go fast again! I am pleased.

Swim Stud,
Where is your 1 mile swim? Are you coming down for the Ocean City race this weekend?
Swimmy :)
I wish. I 'll be doing the point to point in Westport. Mrs Stud is off to India this weekend, and Mother of Stud conveniently arrives which will help with Stud Jr. and Studette.
Good news: Will be visiting Ocean City late summer to scope out for 2008 vacation (after Wildwood, we won't go anywhere based on other's reccomendations again). Maybe I can talk Mrs Stud into vacationing over the 1miler next year...
Thanks Rich! My inner fish and I have a lunch date on August 3, hee hee!
That's cool that you're planning an open water event! Wish you success... Just be careful... darn things are addictive! ;)
You'll be able to do it breaststroke and beat many, many of the freestylers! :applaud:
You might find this interesting: I've just been corresponding w/ someone via e-mail who two years ago breaststroked the swim I'm going to do!
I can swim an EZ version of breaststroke endlessly...well almost...It's my preservaton stroke...when all else fails I can frog myself to safety. I plan to go frontcrawl for the OW mile though. I might rest if I need to but normally after 500Y I'll be in the zone.
Donna,
re Kihei to Molokini --- start early, when the wind kicks up it gets mighty rough and there would be no turning around. Gotta have a good escort boat.
When I used to vacation there, I just found that particular swim of interest. But I won't be doing it; I live in Roatan Honduras and am planning my own 20 miler next year (island to island). And I know what you mean: I train in very high winds and it plays great havoc on me!! Not pretty training wise, but good for conditioning. Oops, it's 7:30AM, gotta go swim now!
Is that the Ocean City Masters Swim? I live in the Philly area, so if you decide to do that one, maybe I'll show up to do it, so I can meet the Famous SwimStud! I'll be looking at you from the back during the race (if I get close enough behind, of course!) but before and after, it'll be cool to meet you! You can tell Mrs.Stud that I'm one of your imaginary internet friends. :)
Haha...imaginary what now?? It's the one Swimmy was talking about.
This past weekend, I swam in my first meet of any kind in 7 years. It was the first time I'd done a long course meet in 15 years! (Last LCM meet before that was Trials in 92). And despite my times being horrifiyingly slow for me, I actually had fun.

Yay for you! That's what it's all about. Keep it up! (I'm sure your times only seemed horrifying by comparison. You'll be smokin' soon enuf!) :bouncing:
