I thought I'd try an experiment here. I propose that anyone of any swimming level can use this thread (or not) when, whether in a small way or earthshaking manner you've done something in the pool that you're proud and/or pleased by. Anyone is welcome to add encouraging comments (or not) or ask for more info., but please no grandstanding or feuding. Okay- I'll go first (and I'm just as hesitant as anyone else). Context: last few months hellish: collapse of my dream business, death in family, huge money troubles etc. result months out of water & exercise & 30lb gain. Further, I just went back over the last 10 yrs, averaged 1 meet a year, no more than 4 months training in any one year. So- been back in water 4 weeks, 2-3 times a week and mostly feeling like chopped liver. Monday night coach say we're going to do dive 25's (meters) from blocks, starter's instructions. Now I haven't done this in years 'cause I have a very bad neck- but I've been frustrated so...did all 3 breastroke 16.3, 15.5, 16.2 which tells me I've still got prospects to go fast again! I am pleased.

Congrats to all who did good this week. For those I'll see at Zones...bring your cameras! :D :D Today, 3/25, I kept my goggles water free and did my first 100 IM.:drink: Personal highlight, for me...the 100IM going from a full body length behind my next lane to being inches away from him on the touch. Also, to ATTAGIRL m2tall2 for coming in WELL UNDER her target time on the 100 BR. Good Job!!

Its always good to have a decent breaststroke in any IM as it comes at perhaps the most crucial point in the race. Congrats on doing so well on your first attempt at that race! From what I understand, you swam quite a lot of different events. I hope you enjoyed the 50 fly o.k.? You also seemed to have become afflicted with a wave of several different kinds of ailments leading up to the meet. You have to get an A for guts if nothing else. Newmastersswimmer

It felt good. Took out the 25 fly under water a la ***, then popped up and swam to the wall. I could hear my heat mates thrashing while I was streamlining silently beneath them... My 2nd 50 was faster than the first and it was the final 25 on the FR that I turned and just went after the guy next to me. It was a good, "big meet"/"new event intimidation" experience. A lot of great folks too!
  • Since tattling on the good deeds of other forum posters has been ok'd by Mr. Thread-Initiator himself, wanted to say that Flyqueen did not only have a great swim yesterday, she took 4 seconds off her PB in the 100 fly (unshaved, unrested, wearing a regular suit)!!! Watch out for the taper, ladies and gentlemen! As for me, the times are much faster in-season this year than last and I really hope to hit some pre-baby times at State next month!
  • Thanks Carrie. Carrie kicked my butt in the 50 & 100 free, despite me being in a later heat ... I need to rethink how I seed myself ... Very nice sprints Carrie!
  • I'm giving a big ATTAGIRL to my FAF Sistas, Swimr4Life and FlyQueen for having such great meets this weekend!!!! Yay!!! :groovy:  :woot:   :smooch: Thanks so much Sis! It was so special to be able to share the Masters experience with my daughter!! It was her first Masters meet (she is 18) and she loved it! She couldn't get over how laid back, fun and supportive everyone was. I also enjoyed showing her off to all my old swimming buddies. We both won high point for our age groups!! My times were ok considering I was out of the water for 3 months! I was way off my best times but its ok considering the circumstances. I'm considering them my "new best times" for my 45-49 age group. The thing I'm most proud of was even splitting my 200 free! I usually DON'T DO THAT! Boy...it sure did feel better swimming it that way! I'm usually of the sprinter "go out hard and hold on til the end" school of thought. The events were extrememely close together so the meet was very tiring. Unfortunately I started coming down with the true blue flu the next day! I was out of commission all week last week. Oh my....I don't ever remember being that sick in my entire life! ....and I had a flu shot! :( I ran a fever for 4-5 days and felt horrid! I'm finally able to function today. Tamiflu....I think I love you!

Mr. Multi-Purpose Brit: who knows what you'll do when 100% healthy? I smell a 400 IM coming... That's me...mr multi purpose. I'm the "swiss army knife" of swimming  400 not just yet. 200IM looks like it has my name on it though...

Congrats to both you and Heather, Carrie. I think you guys are going to turn in some really fast times at your state meet based on how well y'all's meets have been going ...and the fact that you will be shaved and tapered (and wearing fastskins I presume?) I'm also glad to hear Rich did well in his 100 IM! Sorry to hear about your goggle malfunctions in your breaststroke races. Its amazing you were able to get anywhere near your previous times though with that stomach virus and the back probs. Just make sure to stay healty between now and zones and you may have some big time drops at that meet! I think you can go 32 in the 50 *** if you were running on all 4 cyllinders and properly rested. Newmastersswimmer p.s. Good luck this weekend Floyd and Kyra!! Sorry to hear about your cold Kyra. Get plenty of rest and take some vitamins.
