New Online User Record

Re: "Most users ever online was 800, February 1st, 2007 at 08:32 AM." Does anyone know what cause the huge spike to this new record? I was MIA for a few months and I believe the old record was under 200 in a day.
  • My guess is the USMS forums got linked from some other very popular website and it caused a sudden surge in users online.

I'm sure everyone is just dying to answer this question. (I must confess that I asked Geochuck the same question shortly after I joined the forum, but in a PM. ;) ) I guess I'll go first and get it over with. Have you missed the BickerFests? Prior to the BickerFests, there were actually some "meaty" SR threads that sparked interest, including "Muscular Endurance," "How Much Endurance training?," and the very exciting "Training as a Vessel Shaper" thread. But it appears from the threads dating to Feb. 1 that people were very busy writing poetry and limericks on the "Meaning of Swimming Thread" and responding with trivialities to the "Women are Trouble" thread. We are apparently all very shallow (except for those of us who have disavowed that stuff). Plus, Cruise is posting more now and entertaining us with his purple prose. 8:32 am seems like an odd time for a record for online use though ... Is everyone even at work yet? Anyway, welcome back A.K! We are trying to be civil now. A sign of the times...people are browsing internet forums at work as opposed to home.

this is very strange. 8:32 on the east coast is early but it would be 532 on the west coast.

Rich: Have you not gotten enough attention already today?!?! How many compliments does one need after all? Aren't you happy now that you can crush me in the 50 ***? I may have to swim it again some day, perhaps, if I'm bored, just to see how I stack up. But only if FlyQueen joins me. What are you implying? I just had an explanation for the peak on Feb1... damn. What, is clean humour now banned too? :shakeshead: :dunno:

Does that mean you're not wearing the cap for Zones? I thought it was a sure free second or so? :thhbbb: Man, you didn't even wait for my attaboys. A.K. will think we are really uncivil. But I guess he won't mind. A.K.: Did you just say the word "shoulder?"   Man, you really haven't been around. That accounts for high viewing in December. LOL Shoulders... Hehe enough attaboys for me now...I didn't post it for that...

the very exciting "How To Train As A Vessel Shaper" threads that got boatloads of views. This was my favorite. I asked a swimmer the other day if they were vessel shaping and they looked at me as if I were nuts. Even better was the tip Ande made from it.

it had to be a link or something to do with another website because there is no way there was 800 usms people on at 8:32 am east coast time on feb 1.
  • Wasn't that about the time Gull re-posted the picture of Speedo-Man? A.K.: What happened to make you go cold turkey in July 2006?
