My money is on Stanford to unseat Auburn this year. (I don't know if Vegas has a line on it, but if they did I would be there betting!)

At least one of Illinois' Big 10 has some swimmers. Go Mike Alexandrov & Norhtwestern. I'm sitting inthe office of Milo's Restaurant in Urbana, Il. One of the owners went to Northwestern. She didn't swim. Mike is from Champaign, Urbana is connected to it. The U of I doesn't have mens swimming. They do have a nice pool though thatis being remodeled.

Peter, Yes, I will be there but not checking passports. I will try to have several swear words ready in the appropriate dialects.... :-) John Smith

I figured you would be, John; if only to exhort Texas into the Top 10...

Jones went 22.1(long course) at the World University Games this past summer. He should be something to watch this week.
  • Cullen Jones' 50 freestyle at conference (19.07) was very surprising, but his medley relay split (18.42) was stunning. His coach claimed that he was neither tapered nor shaved. I am not sure I totally believe it. If true, look for him to enter Fred Bousequet country (or beyond.)
  • Originally posted by mikeh Cullen Jones' 50 freestyle at conference (19.07) was very surprising It wasn't that surprising in as much as he swam a sub 19.5 quite early in the season (forget exactly where and when). Also he won the 50 free at World University Games last summer with a 22.2 (LCM). So he's definitely been the guy to watch in the 50 for the last year. It will be interesting to see if he can go under 19 seconds.

What percentage of foreign swimmers do y'all think are actually paid by their countries?
  • very exciting morning it's pretty much any one's race in the 50 I've never seen a top 8 that tight only .14 separating first from 8th Matt McGinnis had the ability to make top 8 in the 500 but took his 500 out too hard and paid dearly ouch! I hope he redeems himself in the 200 18 McGinnis, Matthew SO Texas 4:24.55 4:21.32 22.91 47.75 (24.84) 1:13.12 (25.37) 1:38.72 (25.60) 2:04.68 (25.96) 2:30.73 (26.05) 2:57.32 (26.59) 3:24.87 (27.55) 3:53.00 (28.13) 4:21.32 (28.32) ande
