How many former Olympians have you beaten in a race? Can you name them all? I can name 10 maybe more if I think a little more..

In 2003, several of us in the men's 35-39 age group beat 1984 1500 meter Olympic gold medalist Mike O'Brien in the One Hour Swim. His distance was a very respectable 5,010 yards, but was only good for 14th place.
That year I did 5,075 yards (9th place). The men's 35-39 winner, Mike Shaffer of Ventura County Masters, did an incredible 5,905 yards - one of the all-time best in any age group.
Geochuck,
I bought a '57 Dodge Coronet (2 dr. hardtop) 2 years ago. I bought her because she has big ol' fins. I pushed the pedal to the metal on that sucker last year (after I had a complete brake job of course) and she got up to 88mph. The whole damn car started vibrating. I thought she was getting ready to leap into hyperspace or something...... never mind the fact that I could visibly see the gas gauge needle move to the left.
Dude, if you were going 140 in a '55 Ford Fairlane that means it probably took you about an eighth of a mile to stop with the 4 drum brakes that car came with.
Reminder..... seat belts were an option back then. Dude... remind me not to ride with you anywhere.
Rule of life .... you measure a man by the size of his fins.
Paul Smith is extremely jealous of my Dodge. This is a good thing.

My dad had a 57 Dodge with the "swept back fins" (I think that is what they called them in the commercials). It was a gorgeous car - white with red upholstery. I'm sure it got horrible gas mileage. I remember that the power steering was very loose on this car.

Did you know Ron Gora? He swam in the 1952 Olympics and got 8th in the 100 Meter Free. He went to Univ. of Michigan and made a couple of Pan Am teams. He had a National HS records in the 50 and 100 Yard Free in his day. He was one of my first coaches. He used to do stuff like this. He might have known Mike MacLaughlin. He was good friends with Jack Nelson. I new Ron, he and Bumpy Jones were great friends. They used to swim at Camp Chicopee along with Matt Mann jr.
