Fortunately, Weir's outfit was a little more subtle than that!
Agree, Emily Hughes and Kimmie Messiner only medaled at Jr worlds, so Sasha Cohen now if more likely to medal since she was silver twice in the worlds. But strange things can happen Evan Lysachek fell and did another mistake in the short and is in 9th placed while Johhny Weir who placed 4th at worlds twice is currently in Second placed in the men short program at the olympic. Evan was last year's bronze medalist.
Figure skaters are from several states, the past 4 years, the ladies were dominated by the state of California since both Michele Kwan and Sasha Cohen came from there, Hughes being the only East Coaster among the ladies in the 2002 olympics. This time its two East Coast girls, Emily and Kimmie and the Californian Sasha Cohen.
Matt Savoie is from Peoria, IL. Evan Lysachek is originally from Naperville, IL. Many pairs & dance skaters train in Chicago. Has Illinois become the Meca for skating?
Our local morning paper descrided John Weir as skating in a swan outfit. When I read the article, 'm not sure if it is AP or not, I started to laugh. AllI coudl think of was he should have worn the swan dress that Bjork wore a few years ago tothe Grammies.
Probably, because of in-line skating background of a lot of the most recent speedskaters. So, speedskaters are no mostly from states like IL or WI. Chad Hedrick came from Texas.
Champaign has a huge ice skating rink. The Univeristy has a hockey team. There were several ice speed skaters way before in-line was even around. Remeber Bonnie? I'm just wondering why Champaign doesn't have lots of speed skaters on the national & international scene any more.
