The Villages, FL-nearby lap pools?

My parents live in the Villages and I'm spending the next two weeks there for a holiday visit. My problem is, as a visitor, I'm not allowed to use the lap pools, only the recreational ones. My Dad tried writing a letter to allow adult visitors to use the lap pools for a fee or something but got nowhere. I'm just getting back to exercise after an ankle injury and a serious relationship with Lazy and Eat Whatever I Want. ( I've filed for separation) I'm not up to Master's team workouts with the 25 extra pounds I'm carrying around, but I'd like to get some swimming in while I'm down there. Anyone have any suggestions?

The Villages has a masters swim team - I've seen them listed as a chapter of FACT (Florida Aquatic Swim Team). Maybe you could swim with them?

If you're a member of USMS most teams will let you come to their workouts while you're visiting town. Some might charge a small fee. To find the team nearest to where you're visiting you can search Places to Swim: www.usms.org/.../search.php Then you can contact the team, and ask them about specifics on visiting members.

Thanks for the advice, I was able to find the group and email the leader. I'm being optimistic and taking my swim gear with me!

The Villages is located in the middle of the state. It a very large retirement community that sprawls over three counties, and there probably isn't a Y or lap pool nearby that isn't in the complex as the surrounding area is quite rural.

I know, the place is just huge. I haven't heard back from the team leader, and she may be away for the holiday. I brought my jogging stuff too, just in case it doesn't work out.
  • The Florida State Senior Games are supposed to be at the Villages, so they must have a regulation size pool.

  • Wonders if they ever did swim at the Villages. Visiting the parents next week and would like to swim also.

A remote isolated enclave of angry noodlers, my worst fear realized, well, second worst fear actually.
