Forming a team

Can anyone give me advice on how to form a team. I am an American living in Tokyo. I am competing in Japan Masters competitions currently via my local gym, but I want to quit my gym and train somewhere else. I have a long term Masters membership...but how can I get the competition applications without a team registration? Can I form my own team just by registering a new team name for myself. I want to compete in the World Masters next year in San Fran, but am worried about not having an affiliation. I wonder if I could start a Tokyo branch of a U.S. Masters team? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Heheheh... I like the idea of being the queen of my own team. :) I will look into all of your suggestions - many thanks! Heather
  • Heather you could check with the Canadian Masters and see what it takes to form a local team. You might have the same a Local Masters Swim Committee in Canada, talk to them then form a team - the Heather Team. In Pacific, we charge each team a a fee to join, so you may have to pay that fee too. Or you could join one of the cyber teams that are out there. No dues, and they dont swim together at practice. michael

Maybe it's different in the US, but as far as I know I'd have to pay fees to the masters club here to be associated with them even if I didn't plan to swim with them. As I already pay fees for pool access, I don't want to pay more just to be able to say I'm on their team. Heather
