CLOSING CEREMONY
Frank, the 100 *** did not feature a world record. But I would love to see it because I have never seen a sub-1:00 100m *** from start to finish. And to see this rivalry favor Hansen this time around would have been a joy. I was screaming for joy when I saw the live results yesterday. I would have had an aneurysm if I had been in the stands.
I'm hoping Hansen repeats his swim in Irvine, which I'm sure will be on TV.

Kirk- the reason the cameras followed the winning relay is because believe it or not, the CBC is not the host broadcaster & has no control over those cameras
I wondered if that was the case.
Jeff:
You are correct. I saw the :59.37 and knew it was close not remembering the actual 1/100. Its great that Brendan Hansen swam well and Mark Gangloff qualified 1st in the heats for the SF tonight in the 50 ***. His time of :27.49 was only .31 seconds from the World Record and .03 off the meet record.
I don't mean to high jack the thread but I noticed that you are third all time behind these two in the 100 Meter *** in the 15-16 age group from the USA all time rankings. Brendan Hansen has a 1:02.69, then Mark Gangloff at 1:02.77 and then Jeff Commings at 1:02.94. You are in real good company ranked up there with these two.

Well you know how it is. If it's not pretty like figure skating the nation probably wont watch. But apparently golf and bowling are watchable (some things you'd rather do, not watch). I enjoy tennis coverage and will get up early to watch Wimbeldon live, but who else does? Wake up NBC.
As for Phelps, it's burnout and quite possibly his left shoulder again. He had noticble trouble with it during world trials. I don't think he knows how to have fun anymore. Who the heck writes their life story at 19?

I always enjoy the CBC coverage, but did find one thing odd last night. During the 400 free relay the commentators focused on the Canadian team, but the camera followed the U.S.!
It was nice to see the Canadians rebound with a silver after their disastrous performance last year in Athens. I thought the Canadians did well.

Kirk- the reason the cameras followed the winning relay is because believe it or not, the CBC is not the host broadcaster & has no control over those cameras (having only a few for interviews & broadcast announcers). The host broadcaster is Radio Canada, the french arm of the CBC which is automonous from them & enjoys nothing so much as poking a finger in the eye of the rest of Canada.

George- who can really know? Everyone knew that relay was in with a good chance for 2nd- could be the CBC knew Radio Canada would be focusing only on 1st place & declined to send one more camera to isolate on Canadian relay ($$$) or just assumed Radio Canada would recognize the situation & respond themselves. I do know that there is absolutely no love lost between the two organisations.
Western Canada biased? Its love , peace & happiness out here on the left coast.
