Ok, if this were as the swimming world turns the soap opera we are becoming what roles would we all play? (It's been a long day at work and I am so ready for it to be Friday!)
I'll get the ball rolling ...
Dima and his new girl take on the Luke and Laura role of the 80's (never saw it, but did hear about it)
Ande, is the wise cop or wise pub owner that is always giving everyone advice.
Kyra, is the sweet and innocent girl that everyone adores.
Kari and I apparently are the town drunks! :)

Come on, Michael Heather, lighten up!
He would not understand the Usenet cat newsgroup I read either, so don't let him bother you. Just tell him to go away and post something on one of his car discussion groups....
I was wondering what's up with Mike, he usually has a great sense of humor! Smart guys usually do.
You mean there *is* a cat usenet group I haven't discovered yet?

Can somebody give me the Reader's Digest version, please :)
Yeah, but the Reader's Digest version of this mess is longer than War and Peace. :p
Mike has always been a pretty stand up guy....I think he just doesn't get the sillyness of this thread.....
It is in good fun among fellow swimmers...and yes, it is not related to swimming...but it is between swimmers....and we do have a common bond....I see no harm.....and Mike has ALWAYS been pretty decent and he is very bright....let's all give him some slack if possible...maybe he has had a bad day or two.
Mr. Moose is rather open....so never worry what he is up too....just ask....and remember...he's a nice Moose....

Connie,
Check out rec.pets.cats.community, and you'll see why...
He promised not to post on this thread anymore.:D
Well, he can post... at his own risk ;)
I was wondering if he was trying to be funny, and we just didn't get it, or if he was serious.
Sometimes when humor is really deadpan it flies right over my whiskers... Sometiles I need a 'giggle now' cue!
I was going to pull out the 'promote cammaraderie' USMS marketing objective and noogie him with it!
(Mike, remember, we only pick on you cause we Love Ya!)
Okay, I'm off to check out the meow group!

Mike is cool!
On a serious note...
I think maybe he's little worn down with the frequency of the just for fun banter. When there's a lot of it, and one isn't in the middle of it, it can look little too cliquish, especally for someone just coming into it and ends up feeling like they can't get the word in edgewise.
I mean, as much as I like the banter and the inside jokes and friendly commentary ad socializing, I wonder if wouldn't hurt if at some point some of it is taken to email, or private messages so it doesn't appear to go overboard in here. I mean, we do have a wide section of ages and temperaments here, not everyone will fond personal banter amusing or interesting.
Anyways, I think that's the more serious side of the impression I got from his comments. I think maybe part of his concern is that this board is a public place, and it does project part ot the USMS image to the public. And afterall, it is a moderated board, even if they are pretty open minded here.
I'm digging for the full text of the acceptable use policy here, and not finding it... Darn.
Sorry if my comments makes sound like a killjoy :(
:p
I think a lot is taken to emails and PMs ...
I wouldn't want to appear elitist or anything, all are welcome to add and/or banter but I think if someone sees this particular thread (or the majority of the threads I start) as annoying than they should just avoid them.
So while I agree with your thoughts Connie, I don't really see a need to change anything either.
I agree with Tom that there is a swimmer bond and that we like to get to know each other better ... I adore the majority of people that post here and eagarly await a chance to go to a big meet and get to know them all (and see what you all look like!) ...
And I do email or PM with a few special people ;)
I apologize to Mike. I guess we all have our bad days. I've just really enjoyed getting away from the junk in my own life by having fun here & was frustrated when someone appeared to be trying to take the fun away.
Maybe he was only auditioning for town villian? ;)
sorry to all & I'll buy him the beer @ Nationals. :)
