One day this week during a repeat set, my best time for one of the 100's was 1:08 with fins (short course yards). I am in the 40-44 age group female. I have been swimming for about 6 months (before that was high school many years ago). Is anyone else out there this slow or am I the only one of you that isn't a former high school elite swimmer. So many of you have fast times-I'm impressed!

I did that already today, without fins.
In all seriousness, that's way too much practice with fins.
I agree with GEEK: what's up with timing yourslef with flippers? You do not compete in them so why even bother clocking yourself that way?So I actually have no clue how that time of yours would translate into normal swimming, if it is still close to 1:08(I think it would be slower though), it is not bad time for a lady your age at all...
first the whole point of swimming is to do the best you can for where you are, It's great to be the best or top ten but only a handful of people can do that. each person has their own reasons and receives benefits from swimming
i see no problem with timing yourself in a 100 kick with fins
it's another way to mix things up
Sure, you don't get to wear fins in a meet
Ande
I used fins much more when I first started than I do now. As you get back into it, I think it is natural to use them less and less. I remember being frustrated because I could not swim over a 50 so I started using them to be able to extend the length I could swim.
I competed in my first 1000 last weekend, so I have left the fins behind and can swim over a 50!
Sounds fishy to me, doing a set with fins. Why not strap an outboard to your back and get your time?
What is accomplished by doing this much swimming with fins? Is it the sense of speed that you are looking for?
I've swam with a bunch of coaches, most don't use fins. The ones that do don't subject us to 1600 straight yards of kick ruining fin sets.
