(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.)
I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense.
What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?

Awww. . . what a wonderful Valentine's Day present!
Hey, you're one up on the husband - he did NOT write me a poem!

And with that drawl I'll be a fool,

Yes, I was. Were you? Doing some awful long distance event? Or is it strictly open water?
I swam that ole 50 fly there. I cheered on your teammates. I helped Swimmie AvsFan get distracted so that Muppet swam an 850 free. Not! I also watched the epic dual between those two in the 100 back. Muppet has quite a start! I'm sure it's that monofin he uses once in awhile for SDKs.
I love your pool even better than mine. Only been there twice, once LC once SCM. But I had good luck there. Sometimes, I have trouble seeing the walls on the finish though ... But it's got great gutters. I had to swim that 50 fly in lane 1. You're lucky to swim there with great teammates. Maybe you should write a little ditty about your team? I did really like your Ode to the Locker Room poem!
Yes, I was there. I don't swim pool races. I was at the award table giving out the medals and saying..."Great job! Thanks for coming!" If you won anything I gave your medal or ribbon.
That ode is about my other pool(Mont. Co. Rec pool) where I swim on non practice days. That was an old poem before I joined the team.
Swimmy :)

I met you then, Swimmy! Can't remember what you look like for the life of me though ... Bummer! I didn't think your older ode was about the locker room at U MD!
Unlike Cruise and Stud, I refuse to write a poem for Geek in protest of him dissing our thread. LOL. No waiver though. I might write a revenge limerick at some later point ...

Well, I hope I was nice to you when I gave you your medals.
Congratulations!
You should come to a practice on a Saturday sometime with our team. I am usually there and Muppet can point me out.
Swimmy :)

No longer can I claim
Distraction from school (or illness but that doesn't rhyme)
5 am shall come fast :snore:
When I haven't been in a week
Time to give up again
My precious hours of sleep
Tomorrow morning I'll awake
Drag my hinnie out of bed :coffee:
And the whole time wishing
I'd decided to sleep instead
Cross your fingers for no snow......
Well, I hope I was nice to you when I gave you your medals.

Very good, Kyra. I still think upon 1,000 posts one should transition to "hyperactive member"...'course we would have to come up with another one when Leslie and Rich break 10,000! Who will be first?
Slacker! :thhbbb:
You'll miss me when I go on strike, find another obsession or get banned for being too much trouble.
As a travel nurse that specializes in cancer nursing swimming has always been an outlet from a busy shift or bad day. Of course to my friends and family it is just as helpful that I stay chlorinated because they can always tell when I haven't been in the pool for a few days.
I swim for exercise and for not only my mental health but I suspect that it helps everyone that I work/live with. It also comes in handy when I want to splurge on sweets or adult beverages!:)
