The meaning of swimming

(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.) I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense. What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?
  • like to write about the frustration of not being able to work out the roads are frozen my pool is closed i''ve been a prisoner in my own home Haven't been to practice haven't taken a stroke It's going on four days I'm about to lose hope chorus I'm tired of getting none I've gotta get me some I'm upset cause I'm not gettin wet I want better weather get the mercury to rise i'm feelin cabin fever being cooped up inside chorus repeats ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ here's a song I started when I was in New Orleans during christmas believe in something by Ande it's important to have conviction you need to know what you believe if you don't stand for something you might fall for anything chorus everybody should believe in something that's what we're all taught to think it's not good to believe in nothing so I believe I'll have another drink (i'm working on verse 2)

  • Ode to Swimming....(What number are we up to....) The Polar Bear Plunge Oh, some people say we are nuts, We don't want to get stuck in ruts, Running, Jumping, Leaping, Off to freeze our butts! Oh, I think the water will be cold! Maybe I am getting too old? Chilling, Shivering, Icing, We can do it! We are very bold! Oh, the Bay is a fun place to be, But what is that.... floating ice I see? Gasping, Shaking, Rasping, Someone come rescue me! Wish me luck. Saturday is the big plunge! Swimmy :)

  • Kyra and Heather: Those were amazing! :groovy: Glad you joined in the banter, baby sister. Welcome back Sonic! Hang in there! Retaliation To Battle Cry: The postal event is a sordid affair, Swimming an hour on a USMS dare. Only the dim go flip, flip, flip. The 50 fly is way more hip. Mindless freestyle is shoulder wear. In fact, engine building is quite over-rated. Terry avers that the theory's out-dated. So, instead, I aim to vessel shape. Mindfully drilling, not a postal ape. Avoiding the Endless laps, well hated.
  • to the tune of the University of Maryland Fight song www.free4all.umd.edu/.../fight.html This one is called Etude in 50 Free. Off the blocks we dive again hips gyrate and arms a-spin white-water trail, keep on fighting for air don't breate again. FLIP TURN! Streamline and fight, fight fight for air again super kick and flail-arm-spin don't breathe to the wall and a record will fall in Vic-tor-ry! :drink:
