(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.)
I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense.
What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?
Yeah, Swimmy! Don't they know we need to "train" for the Polar Bear Plunge? The water this morning wasn't too warm, because they had a swim meet over the weekend - weeeee! Bring on the cold! ;-)
Diana
Diana,
Yes, I agree. We need some ice in the pool for our training! Wimps can go swim in the hot tub!
Brrrr!
Swimmy :)
PS. Yes, we are that crazy! We are doing the Polar Bear Plunge in the Chesapeake in January....No whiners allowed!
Let's make add a little exaggeration to it:
Doing the Polar Bear Plunge, while it's Snowing in Mid January, OUTDOORS, in a Speedo and NOTHING else! *BRRR!* :p THEN and only THEN is it COLD! *freeze!* *BRRR!* *ACHOO!*

Why do you think we all swim? It's all about the lifeguards!! Having amazing shoulders and swimming fast is just an added bonus.
I am a dedicated "Aquaphile" and I've always loved being in the water whether it be the pool for lap swimming or water polo or just taking a simple bubble bath.
Swimmers are also a pretty cool group of athletes too and I've met quite a few interesting people while engaging in this sport.

Oh, that elusive butterfly,
I really did try,
Splashing, Kicking, Drowning,
I survived somehow, oh my!
That is my ode to my miserable butterfly. I went to a clinic today to work on it.
Hope all is well with the old gang!
I survived the Polar Bear Plunge in January (37 degrees!)
Next adventure....tackling Alcatraz!
Swimmy :)
