Getting back in the game

Hi out there to all, my name is Stephanie, and I'm having some trouble, I was hoping y'all could help me. I've been trying to get back into the swimming world after four years of dealing with a serious knee injury that left me out of the State Champs my junior year of high school and beyond. I'm interested in hard-core training and competing, to hopefully finish a career I'd started in high school. The problem I have is that I'm moving to Pittsburgh in a couple months, and until then, there's nothing around this small Ohio town to get me started. I'm not under 18, and I'm not in high school anymore, so there's really nothing group-wise for me. I would really appreciate any help, advice, workouts, dryland, coaches in Pittsburgh/groups, weights, anything like that. I was primarily a backstroker, shortcourse 100 and 200, and relays. Thanks!

So let me just say, you guys are the coolest! MSgrupp, thank you so much for all your info, everything, from the city to the swimming groups, are totally foreign to me (I literally come from a town of less than 11,000 people, and we only have that many because our town is the intersection of three major state highways, and a central point to three bigger cities; without all that, we have about 3,000 natives that their families lived here, they work here, and raise families here) I'm heading to Pgh. Sept. 16th and 17th to get an apartment (hopefully close to downtown) and get my class schedule set up. So far, my best options look like Downtown YMCA and Tree Hill for Team Pittsburgh (but from what MSgrupp said, it could be difficult trying to get to Tree Hill I've also been to the USA swimming sight many times, and while I'm still unclear if I will join or what not, I am using a lot of the resources on that website. Very cool. If worse comes to worse, I may just have to join the Downtown Y and workout on my own pretty much, and find a way to compete as an individual somewhere. I have a friend from Irvine CA whose coach is sending me workouts and drylands, things like that. Well, kids, thanks so much for your support, and if you can think of anything else for this, send it my way! I'll let y'all know about my schedule and living arrangements when I get them, and I'll try to get a list from my docs for Orthos in the Pgh area. Slainte! Stephanie

Hey kids, just thought I'd give an update on the whole situation over here.....went to my ortho today, and there was good news and bad news: She took X-rays and measurements and stuff, and while my ACL, Posterior Capsule and Posterior Lateral Corner are still really iffy, they haven't gotten any worse in four years. Of course, that's without swimming. She definitely would prefer that I didn't swim at all, but she said if I "felt like it was something I had to do" (FYI, it is), then she was recommending this ortho in Pittsburgh, and at the first sign of trouble, I should please please stop swimming and go see him. His name's Chris Harner, from the University of Pitt medical center. Anybody know anything about him? She said he was tops. So it looks like I'm going to do this swimming thing again, for better or worse...... Sewickley masters, anyone?
