6 bucks to swim for one hour? All these YMCA's I've been too are chargin that much to swim for the 1 hour adult lap swim. That's outrageous. They have a punch pass...20 visits for 50 bucks....which is semi reasonable, but when I'm not even in the city for 20 days then the rest is wasted. Why do they charge so much. It's not just Oklahoma, I've seen one in PA charge the same thing. Kelli,

I don't even have this option. I would love to have the option to pay 6$ to use a "real" pool that I did'nt have to drive 50 miles to.

Thats probably the mid norm for a indoor swimming pool not supported by local goverment. I did see the NYC post of 25 dollars to drop in for a swim . Now thats high! how much is a hamburger? slice of pizza or cup of coffee?

I have to use a hotel pool in the town that I work at because there is nothing else in this area that I can use. They just built a new 50 million dollar high school, with no pool! They have a very good age group team in this town and they have to travel 20 miles to use a college pool that they won't let the public use and have to pay $175 to use it for 4 months. So i don't want to hear anymore "I have to pay $6 drop in fee wa,wa,wa." You bunch of spoiled babies!!  Y'all are lucky. Try to do a 1000 yard in a 13 yard hotel pool at 85 degrees. Can't even breath when I'm done!

I would guess that a good breaststroker would do nothing but pullouts!

We pay $100 per month for a "family swim team" membership at a local gym, where my daughter is on a team coached by a former Turkish Olympic swimmer and two lanes are open for adult lap swimmers during the team's practice. So I get off work, take her to practice and I get to swim, too. And my husband enjoys weight lifting at the gym as part of the family package. This is in Southern Oregon--where wages as well as expenses are relatively low. I think it's a good set up. The kids make a lot of churn but the energy is good and I sometimes pick up tips by listening and watching.
