Take a look at the press release posted on swiminfo.com: www.swiminfo.com/.../6949.asp
Here's a quote that bothers me:
By strategically increasing the surface area, TYR has increased his/her ability to pull without increasing any resistance through the recovery. Just think of it as ascending an aquatic ladder.
Should these be allowed? I would guess that they are o.k. as far as current rules read, but I don't like it. I think these sleeves amount to an aid, sort of like wearing paddles. I guess the question is: what constitutes a swimsuit? Obviously caps are o.k., so you can't argue that it must be one piece.

What ever happened to good old fashioned "Motion-Lotion"?
The kids these days. ;)
For those non-engineers out there not versed in hydrodynamics, here's a pretty decent writeup I got from US Swimming's site: www.usswim.org/.../template.pl
This is a test to measure the drag reduction of the Speedo Fastskin suit. There's a discussion of laminar flow and separation in the second half of the article.
Gosh, I have the perfect solution to the dilemma surrounding the use these new suits…and…frankly I have always been of mind that my solution is a great solution. SWIM NAKED! That will ensure an equal playing field….”Pun intended.”
These things are available for triathletes on their wetsuits. There have been some independent investigations and no one can document a benefit to having them on there.
Now I know triathletes can't swim but I thought this might be worth relating. !
i wear a tyr swim short, theyre quite good..as for the suit..forget it..what a messin about...they are probably ok ....no theyre not,are,not,are.....where did that come from???

Piking is like the pike dive. Off the starting blocks the body is bent at the waist, head and arms down, legs and feet down, rear up in the air. Arms and feet hit the water at the same time, followed by the ceter of the body. I
I like to call this the "lawnchair dive."
i guess what i am wondering is how come suits can wear paddles in the race? if this stuff flies with fina im gonna make millions off my patented 250 horsepower trunks with 2 speeds.
Swim Naked!!! Baack in the ole days my high school team swam at the Y, naked. We only say a suit for a meet, and they were the nylon ones we wear now for drag.
The start could be a little dicey, but after that it would be o.k I always piked the start rather than land the "correct" flat way. Took me many years to stop the pike.
There is no way they will allow the armbands. I think it is there to give back:D They offer these up to the rule makers in exchange for the allowing of the rest of the crap or I mean suit.
Of course I was the first to have the Speedo 2000 back in 1992, one of the first with the first Fastskin, so I will probably get one of these - WITHOUT THE ARMBANDS, I do have some pride.
