Beza - before you rush off to serve crackers and yogurt at Intel tonight, I do believe Connie has served you up a dose of humble pie.
Immediately post your meet times on this forum from 8 months after you started 16 years ago. That will really put this all into perspective.
Good thing Fritz weighed in on your behalf cause you had about tapped gull80 out. And, as we know, you mooch others in the absence of your own data.

Pay attention, will ya!
You didn't post evidence that this is not the case.
Ask nicely Craig to explain to you what I said.

Anyone going to Indy bringing a video camera? Would love to get Euro's 1000 on tape so we can all have something to compare the white noise with? Also, I really wonder how spectacular his coaches are if, as Paul says, Euro's techique, diet, and mental prep are so horrendous? They must be glorified lifeguards who moonlight as masters "coaches" at $8/hour.
Bergen you should try to do your mindless attacks to my face and one-on-one only.
You don't have this courage, and you duck.
Asking others to shame me because you cower.

Now you're talking.
Thank you for this well written post, I'm a big believer in this!
You're right, Ion. I am sooooo sorry for ripping on you. I should show you the same respect that you show everyone else on these forums when they communicate with you...oh, I already am.
There is no category for "late bloomers." There is men's 40-44 and you are not a good swimmer; you ARE a hard worker who doesn't realize or get the simple joy of what we do can be found (as previously stated so well) in a simple glide off the wall and a great feel for the water. Until you embrace these subtleties among others (and work on controlling the asthma and diet), you will be stuck trying to utilize your scientific analysis of this sport. While that analysis IS valuable, it is only a percentage (the amount has been debated, ad nauseum) of the bigger picture of this sport. You (and all of us) are getting older. At some point, working smarter will prove more beneficial than working harder, because at some point (and you're probably close), you won't get any faster. We all get there. Try to join us instead of fighting us and you won't be battling on these forums with faceless foes. We probably can (and have tried) help you. Swimming with the water is better than swimming through molassas.
You are wrong:

Over the years, I've seen lots of old guys who were former youth swimmers get
into the water after a long layoff. First couple of days, they're not so
tough. After a month, they are kicking some serious butt. I think it's much
more related to muscle physiology than to technique.

The italics of where you are wrong, are mine.
Also you are and will stay slow.
Well, a lot of people bring up the kid thing. Just because Ion and myself don't have children doesn't mean we are not busy in our own way. While, I thing Mr Beza goes on and on about a subject that I don't all agree with. I understand what it is to be a minority and childless people in their 40's are a minority. The general public sometimes doesn't relate to them. And reading stats about the US population approaching 410 million by 2050 when it was under 200 million when I was born gives me a cause of concern. Large population countries such as China and India over 1 billion people don't have the standard of living we have in the US. So, some people preferring to remind childless helps our country in avoiding overpopulaton.

And slow.
Speaking of slow, you weren't paying attention and didn't include a quote, so, who are you talking to anyway?
As for wrong, too bad you see that as an insult, and have the need to childishly lash out with insults towards other people.
You have the need that other people continuously validate that you're right, and that, my pal is dysfunctional behavior. I bet you never read through or paid attention to that psych stuff I posted for you. If you did, you;d know just how silly and childish your "I'm right and you're wrong" posts sound.
I'm not a little kid, I could care less whether you say I'm right or wrong, my belief system and values exsit independently of your approval or validation, and I'm secure with my knowledge. So whether you think or say I'm right or wrong is irellevant. I know my information came from credible sources/
Too bad your belief system needs so much external validation. Often it indicates insecurity in your own self, or your own beliefs and knowledge.
See that "wrong" post of mine was a psych bait to suck you in and show your inability to remain dignified, and you took and swallowed it like a starving catfish.
You pride yourself on hard work and acomplishing things... Put some work in that abrasive personality of yours. You might find yourself a lot more "understood" after you do. Your swimming will benefit too. Youll probably get a lot of positive attention too, and you won't feel so isolated.
I wonder if you often butt heads with your coaches. I get the sense that when they suggest something to you, you take it as if you're doing something wrong, and that bruises your ego... if it's anything like you behave in this newsgroup, I bet it bruises it to a point you stop being receptive. By your behavior on this bulletin board, I can definately see whay some people that met you in person said that you're 'uncoachable'.
I also wonder if perhaps that is not the reason you have worked for so many companies in so few years? Those personality traits tend to exist in all aspects of one's life. If I thought you were open to it, I'd actually recommend a professional you could talk to, but I don't think you're ready, my guess is you probably will never be ready for that. It takes a lot more humility and a lot less denial than you posess.

I am. And already said I'll tape him. I'm in charge of taping my team's races anyway.
