What is the fastest age for a swimmer(mine seems to be faster as i get older and yes i swam as a youngster...now im 37..)?
Former Member
Well, Connie I don't worry about competing against the 20 year old that could do 1:17 to 1:19 breaststokes and 1:07 to 1:09 100 yard butterflys, anymore. I took off too many years and unlike some swimmers my body was unable to get back where it was as a youth and when I first started back even my freestyle felt weird breathing on the side and my breaststroke was the scissors kick. I usually train under 3,000 yards for 4 times a week. My 46 year old body can't take more. And contrary to what some have stated their were medocre swimmers in their youth that sometimes can be beaten by late starters.

And, yes Ion, my late blooming friend, who doesn't use that as an excuse, schools you in the water. He also has a life and a family.
...
Can you prove this with a recorded time, say in the 1,000 free?
Talk is cheap.

Hey, Ion, does that "few exceptions" list include the dozens of men in your age group who will be seeded higher than you in the 50 and 100 free? What about the faster men older than you, the faster women your age and older since you like to compare your times to women in this forum. Do you do that on usswim.org also? You pick on 13 year old girls there and call them wimps?
Dozens of men?
I am talking of thousands who are lifelong swimmers, slower than me and don't train and race much.
You are one.
In the 1,000 free that you cannot muster.
That's what I mean about wimps who don't train and race:

Ion - I don't swim the 1000, never have in my whole life, even when I was a kid with good V02MAx as an early bloomer. Good luck in the 100 this year. I hope you can get a time to crow about.
100 for me is a pastime, 1,000 is my better event that shows cardiovascular training pretty good for a late bloomer.
As for the late bloomer faster than me that you mentioned, I hear of these existing in USMS and triathlons for three years since I came to this forum, but man, when it comes down to me tracking them with data, they sure become invisible...

Let me get this straight:
$85k in high-tech is more than you make in high-tech since you didn't go to school for this level of high-tech salary.
It's beyond your abilities.
Remember that late bloomer faster than me that you trumpeted about a few posts ago?
You never backed up that claim.
I see a pattern here of you bragging about better achievements than mine, but gee, you cannot prove a single claim that you make, can you?
These achievements that you trumpet about must be invisible, you know?
Your talk is cheaper than mine.
As for who makes more than me, it doesn't matter to me, 85k is good enough for the hedonist that I am who enjoys life's pleasures.

You promised to use the 'Ignore' button on my posts.
You broke your promise here.
Not much of a strong will in you?

I don't know what you think that I look like since you never saw me.
People here say that I do look and act like a slim water-polo "...blond dude...".
I will not violate a person's privacy and give you name Ion. But, I am not a liar and you'll have to trust me on tnis one. You are not the fastest late blooming low V02Max swimmer in the US. Of course, if you don't care about being fast or being top 10, why would you care anyway?
gull80 - Swamp Thing? Good one, I might change my forum name to that. I do love grits and enjoy NASCAR as a casual observer so maybe Redneck Grits Boy might be better?
Ion - good luck with your job. Maybe you will make $87K soon and can join the first shift COBOL help desk at Intel. If you learn Java or SAP you could even aspire to make what a US recent colege grad makes in high tech in So. Cal. If you are gonna start boasting about your salary, better make sure you know what you're talking about first.
