As for your heroes, be aware of much more.

Regardless of our accomplishments as an age grouper, college swimmer, fitness swimmer, triathlete, top ten or all-american, masters swimmer, or late bloomer or male or female or if our personal best in an event is 2:00 slower than anyone else, this organization and this sport is about a lifelong commitment to fitness and health.
...
I take:
"...this organization and this sport is about a lifelong commitment to fitness and health..."
to make it:
"...this sport is about a lifelong commitment to fitness and health..."
I omit the part that from my experience I find misleading.
But that's me, with my own standards that I don't impose on others as long as I am not being challenged in things that I do better than some who foolishly challenge me.
(See the evolution in this thread started by claims that challenge me but are foolish.)
So if it is the organization you dislike( I am slow, but the lightbulb is coming on), why do you pariticpate, why do you come to these forums? Sign up as a USA member and go swim USA meets. We have people your age in our Illinois meets all the time, and no one bats an eye.
I happen to like some of your discussions before they get off on tagents. You have some interesting ideas and good input on training, but then it all gets messed up with the same old same old.
I read these forums for help on my swimming. I know I can improve, training wise, technique wise. I or anyone else does not need to berated because I don't train enough or aren't fast enough.
And forgive me, I enjoy reading Swim and reading about these top level swimmers, just like I enjoy reading Splash and reading about the top USA swimmers. I don't begrudge Michael Phelps because he is 10 inches taller than my son and is much more talented and is in the top 10. I will enjoy watching him swim, and I will enjoy watching my son at his level better his time. People like lists, people like to hear about the greats in a sport, don't begrudge the organization for providing that.

I learned to take in life percentages from situations.
For example people ask me what country I like best and I say none, but a mixture of countries that I know that's best.
I came back to this forum because Jim Thornton asked -and later regreted- how I am doing, and because lefty and Phil (i.e.: Phil Arcuni) seemed to understand what I said.
In the thread that lefty deleted by accident, the last post by Phil about what I said and did, good and bad, was right on, and I thought that finally the platform for a mature discussion was set.
Also lefty summarized once very well what I said and did.

No q-times for Nationals, but it is only 2 hours away and Illinois Masters are a fun bunch. ...
Oh wow, the IM-er... you have my respect.
I jsut started practicing the other strokes in January.
Man, they use some different muscles that I don't have developed yet.
I keep practicing, one day, it'll all fall togeter, I hope.
I signed up for 3 no NQT events, one each day.
I'm reall going for the vacation and the social aspect this time :)
And to learn about how it all runs. I donated for the VIP pass for everything, so I can schmooze around :)
I'm looking forward to it all.
Next year, I may have the NQT's and actually have to concentrate on swimming. This year I'm going for the experience.
I'm with the Mission Viejo Nadadores, so if I don't see you first, please look for me.
Ion - I don't swim the 1000, never have in my whole life, even when I was a kid with good V02MAx as an early bloomer. Good luck in the 100 this year. I hope you can get a time to crow about.
