Swiminfo reported that Doc died this morning. The obit can be found at www.swiminfo.com. Anyone have any stories, thoughts, reflections, etc on Doc? Having grown up swimming in Indiana and attending swim camp at IU, Doc definitely played a part in my development and love of swimming. He was a wonderful person who will definitely be missed.
I had no idea that he passed away.
4 1/2 years ago! (Note date of first post on this thread.) It made the news, but it's been so long I had forgotten, too. Lots of other ppl died in the interim!

This is a great article that say's it all. I watched IU swim against MSU in the early 70's when Spitz Kinsella and other greats were swimming. "The Science of Swimming" will continue to be the bible of coaches and swimmers. He was one of the greatest coaches our sport will ever know.
A true story, - At the 73 World Clinic in Chicago, a table of experts finished their discussion and let the audience form lines and ask any of them a question. As a young college student, I stood in line to ask Doc a question. I recited the question in my head as many times as I could so I wouldn't mess it up. When I finally got face-to-face with my hero, no words would come out of my mouth, - I forgot what I wanted to ask and froze until Doc finally tilted his head with a puzzled look and told me thanks, nice to meet you. I left sheepishly wanting to crawl in a hole but I got to shake the great man's hand and I'll never forget it.
As a former swimmer from Indiana and IU's swim camp... this is a sad day for Indiana Swimming. He was such an icon - thank you for posting this information - I had no idea that he passed away.
