I HATE jumping into a cold pool; sure, call me a whimp, but anyway ... Does anyone have suggestions to combat this? I seem to recall that English Channel swimmers used to coat themselves with something (Vaseline?) to protect themselves from the extreme conditions of the channel. Is there a strategy that someone could share with me? Do body suits help?
Thanks for the advice. You can email me direct with an answer if you want at PeoriaBums@aol.com.

I'm with you 100%, especially when we spend so much of winter trying to stay warm. When I get to the pool I dread the initial contact with the water. I know there is only one thing that will make it tolerable and that is swimming. When I start I focus on other things to take my mind off the cold water (technique, the day's workout, maybe other swimmer's workouts). Before I know it I am comfortable with the temp and it helps me keep going.
It's kind of like pulling a band-aid off, the quicker you do it, the less it hurts. Just get in and swim.
