Hi everyone, The Virtual Geographic Swim Series is underway, and I'm already 14 miles into the Crater Lake Swim. I hope to complete the "whole enchilada" before moving on to a different virtual swim. How are you doing? I hope you are enjoying the virtual swims. Post a message here and let us know how you're doing. Haven't checked it out yet? go to: www.usms.org/.../fitnessevents.shtml Cheers, Bill

Less than half of the year left for the virtual swims. I forgot to add up my mileage for the past few weeks - and just like that - I am done with Lake Champlain. I'll probably do some of the shorter swims next and save that really long Key West swim for the fall. I am looking forward to seeing the totals at the end of the year - and of course proudly wearing my "I swam America's waterways" t-shirt.

Hi Lizzie, Congratulations! I finished Lake Champlain, too. Ironically, I was somewhere off the shore of Rangeley Lake, Maine, when I finished my virtual Champlain swim. :) Bill

I finally finished the Key West Swim on December 16th. I started January 1 and started to doubt, in August, if I would finish the swim by the end of the year. I was not getting much pool time in the fall but was able to step up the yardage a little later. I am sending in my stained, smeared, and torn log today and a check to certify that I am obsessed with swimming. It is amazing what a person will do for a TSHIRT. At the age of 47 I may be so slow that it took me all year to swim the distance but I am sure that I am in better cardiovascular health than 98 percent of America. Oh yes I am proud of this. Have a great day Paul

Well, its better than being one of the worst swimmers that swam as a kid. At least you started as an adult. Believe me I'm pretty low average as an adult and I swam as a kid. Granted, I was pretty average as a kid swimmer.

Only a few weeks left for the swim series- doesn't look like I will finish Key West - only 19 miles into it as of today BUT - I can proudly say that I swam over 300 miles in 2003. I hope everyone else enjoyed the series/swimming as much as I did. Thanks to the fitness committee and the organizers for doing this. Next year, my goal is to do 366 miles or a mile a day (not swimming every day but swimming a total of 366 miles so that it works out to a mile a day). My team is challenging everyone to be in the 366 club - maybe USMS/ fitness committee would want to do a variation on the 366 theme.

I'm a little confused here...how does this virtual swim work? Do you swim in your regular pool? How long will the virtual swim go on for? Thanks
