Times are just getting jaw dropping fast. This could be his year for a sub :40 in the 100 free. ...Last season was less than a finger nail away! 100 Free, Caeleb Dressel, FLO, 40.00, 03/25/17
  • How about the 1:38.1 200 IM too? What a monster.
  • yep totally crushed it by 1.2 secs! On the one hand, he only beat the BR record by .01 seconds, on the other hand, he broke the record and he is not known as a breaststroker. WOW! Sprint freesylers are fast and they can translate their speed in other strokes but a 100 yard *** is different than a 50 yard *** which is pure speed.
  • Does the man even HAVE off events? Maybe 1650 and 200 back?I'm sure Dressel's 200 back is solid. And seeing his underwaters I suspect he'd be right at the AR in the 100 back.
  • I'm sure Dressel's 200 back is solid. And seeing his underwaters I suspect he'd be right at the AR in the 100 back. I don't know, do you think he's a comparable backstroker to Ryan Murphy? The only data point we would have to go on is the 200 IM split - he was 25.0, Nolan's old record was a 24.2 split and Murphy was 24.4 split last year (interesting but completely tangent that Kalisz was 24.5 after only a 23.1 fly split). I think I'd spitball 44.high/1:41.mid backstrokes. Might be overestimating a little on the 200, it's MUCH less about underwaters than the 100.
  • I don't know, do you think he's a comparable backstroker to Ryan Murphy?Okay Murphy's 43.49 is pretty stout. But I'd guess a rested shaved Dressel would be 44 mid or better.

Okay Murphy's 43.49 is pretty stout. But I'd guess a rested shaved Dressel would be 44 mid or better. Just a theory, but maybe he coasted that backstroke leg in order to throw the hammer down the ***-free portions. That's where he left the field in the dust. I'd venture to say that he's easily capable of getting under :44 for 100 back given how strong his underwater kicks are. ....His coach much just be giddy watching this guy train.
  • On the one hand, he only beat the BR record by .01 seconds, on the other hand, he broke the record and he is not known as a breaststroker. WOW! he erased a 2 time olympian in breaststroke record. and he is the current world champion in the 100 fly it must really suck to swim 2 off events and go the fastest ever in human history
