I've pulled the tough duty of two weeks in Hawaii for work. Will be on Hawaii, Oahu, Maui & Kauai. Does anybody have any favorite pools/masters practices to drop in on while there? I've gotten the guide from SGOL - - just looking for recommendations. Thanks!
Dear CMM -
Hopefully, Janet Renner will respond as well, but in case she does not, Maui has a number of very nice places to swim.
There is a 50 mtr x 25 yd pool in Lahaina that is open to the public. There is another pool in Wailuku as well. Up Country in Pukalani has a 6 lane 50 mtr pool with gorgeous sunset views, and there is a relatively new pool in Kihei (25 mtr).
Contact Maui Masters or the Hawaiian LMSC (Janet is the primary contact. At one time, the masters worked out daily in the various pools.
I liked the Pukalani and Lahaina locations the best.
If you want to get away slightly from the normal crowd in Kailua-Kona, go to the next bay south where Captain Cook's Statute is. Swimming there is where dolphins will come in and swim with you. There are no beaches and only a couple of public access points, but well worth it. The Bay is Kealekelue Bay.
