2014 FINA Worlds Information

Dear Worlds Swimmers, The World Team coaches are excited to represent United States Masters Swimming at the 2014 FINA World Championship. Coaches are Tim Waud (Oregon), Dean Hawks (Indiana), Andrew LeVasseur (Colorado) and Jennifer Catucci-Crowther (Virginia). Head Coach Tim Waud can be reached by email: Twaud@aol.com COMMUNICATION: Social Media: Join our Facebook Group: www.facebook.com/.../ This page will continue to be updated preceding and throughout the event. Venue: The World Team coaches intend on identifying two locations, one just outside of each competition pool in Montreal, where we can post daily messages for all the USA swimmers. Please be on the lookout for “TEAM MESSAGES” at the meet. Look for the USMS logo on the message board. Coaches: The World Team coaches will be highly visible on the pool deck(s). Coaches will be wearing USMS Polo Shirts and be in area represented by a United States Masters Swimming banner. RELAYS: Relay Cards: Relay sheets or cards indicating the names of the pre-registered swimmers will be given to the team representative on arrival at registration. These competitors must be verified or amended and the relay sheets or cards returned to the designated point by Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Changes to team age groups, swimmers or times will be accepted until Tuesday, 15th July 2014 by the coach or a team representative. All relay team members must be affiliated with the same swimming club. A swimmer may not swim for more than one team per relay event. TEAM DINNER: Check the team message board and Facebook daily for information regarding team dinners and social events.   • It's been in English at all the FINA Worlds that I have swum (this is my eighth). "Take Your Mark". FINA rules dictate the "take your marks" command be given in English: SW 4.3 In Olympic Games, World Championships and other FINA events the command «Take your marks» shall be in English and the start shall be by multiple loudspeakers, mounted one at each starting platform.

It was pretty crowded at first with a lot of reminding swimmers not to dive in or use equipment. Then after about the first hour the pool really thinned out and some swimmers were afforded their own lane. Other swimmers live near the extensive list of places to swim in Montreal. In either of the situation, it may be possible to get some focused swimming time. During the 6:50-7:50am daily warm up on competition days, you are right to expect chaos. You will have time to swim continuously at a moderate speed and practice a few dives in the one way sprint lanes. Hopefully, you and the other swimmer won't need much more prep and are ready to do your thing! Good luck and be sure to introduce yourself to the coaching staff while at the venues. Best to you, Coach Andrew Thanks, Andrew. Our flight arrives tomorrow evening at 5:15, so I'm not sure we'll join you at the opening ceremonies. If not, I'll look for you on deck. For those of us who need to warm up close to our race time to avoid injury (adductors and hip flexors for me), this meet will be a difficult situation. Since we are required to report 15 minutes prior to our race AND it's a 10 minute walk to the temporary pool (faster than waiting for the shuttle!), I can't imagine blasting off the blocks for my 50 breaststroke and going !00% in the first few strokes. :afraid: For my long races, it looks like I'll be using the first 50 for my quality warm-up. :rolleyes: Hey, at least I'll get my own lane! :banana: I sure wish we could use the rowing basin for warm-ups... :bouncing:
