I believe I have counted 19 so far including Amanda and Melinda. Palomino is our best bet, we can walk there from any downtown area hotel or the pool. I had dinner there over spring break and the food is still good and their menu is varied.
I'll wait a couple days before I make the reservation in hopes a few more folks might want to join us.
Any ideas on what time we'd like to eat????
Any ideas on what time we'd like to eat????
Keep in mind there's an error in the timeline for the meet on Friday. See:
forums.usms.org/showthread.php
The meet is actually supposed to end at around 3:30, not 4:30.
If you would all chip in a modest stipend each to buy me a state of the art iPad with Skype capabilities, I could attend the dinner in virtual form, make comments on the food and waitresses, encourage each of you to swim your very best, help Leslie deal with Post Carbon Pro Stress Disorder, work with Rich to titrate his thyroid medications, offer sex tips, etc. I would be willing to leave my camera on for the duration of the meet so that the women swimmers could cuddle up to virtual me between events and maybe even during the evening times, too. A win-win, I am pretty sure.
I am not greedy. Jim Thornton is not a greedy man.
I do not need the iPad with retina display and 128GB of RAM for $799.
The iPad with retina display with a mere 16GB of RAM for $499 is more than sufficient!
By my count, there are at least 20 forumites and another, say, 5-6 forumite wives/children planning to eat at Palamino, a delicious but expensive restaurant.
Round off to 25 total diners. Divide this into $499, and that's a mere $19.96 contribution per person to make Virtual Jim Thornton a 24/7 presence in your Nationals Meet Experience!
Less than $20 a head!
And I have even figured out a way to do it.
Simply ask to see the lunch menu and order something cheap.
Also, ask if they have anything that spilled on the floor but was quickly picked up before germs could contaminate it, and ask if you could receive a further discount on your lunch menu for dinner selection.
Other cost cutting techniques:
Cancel your hotel reservation and stay for free at the luxurious Bobinator compound in Carmel. The nicest place I have EVER stayed in Carmel, bar none!
Instead of ordering expensive wine from the menu, purchase a small box of wine easily concealed under the Hawaiian shirts of the men and the mu-mus of the women, along with some flesh colored aquarium tubing and slurp away inconspicuously knowing you've saved yourself a fortune that can then be spent on the iPad with retina display 16GB RAM.
One more thing: if you buy my iPad at Amazon, I actually have a $50 free gift certificate there that I have never used! I am willing, under the maxim "Forumites help forumites who help themselves" to contribute the full $50 to the purchase, that is, my very own money!
Which takes the entire price down to the rest of you to $449, or approximated $17.96. Already you've saved $2! Enough to guiltlessly order cheese with that lightly-spilled-on-the-floor lunch burger at Palaminos!
You know how they will put amusing little goats in the stalls of magnificent racing stallions at the Kentucky Derby stables? Where can you superlative swimmers, with your high strung temperaments and nearly impossible to meet, Zarathustrian standards for yourselves, hope to find a more amusing little goat of a psychic balm than me?
Bring me to the meet...virtually!

I am spent.
Could someone handle the logistics of money gathering, shipping, etc.?
