My name is Quenby and I am brand new to usms. I train on my own and live in a rural area in Oklahoma. I would love to compete again (swam all through high school) but of course college, marriage and kiddos happened. I know I am not incredibly fast but I am driven and dedicated. Any suggestions at all would be much appreciated.

Welcome Quenby.
All great advice above. See you in the water!
Hi Quenby.
Lots of great advice from these long time USMS/Forums participants. I have one suggestion. How about a non-competitive/competitive swim meet. By that I mean participate in a Postal Swim. During the latter part of last year and the beginning of this year I did the following:
3,000 Yard Postal
Sprint Postal Pentathlon
Middle Distance Pentathlon
Iron Man Pentathlon
Brute Challenge
One Hour Postal
USMS Check Off Challenge (not postal but I completed it, twice)
Look for Postal Swims in Swimmer Magazine, or USMS Calendar of Events. I feel its a great way to participate without all the pressure of actually attending an swim meet. You will also get a good idea of your swimming abilities.
Just follow the instructions provided the the Postal Swim Meet host, and away you go.
Good Luck with your swimming.
Regards,
Welcome Quenby!
I'm kind of new here too, and swimming mostly on my own. I do have a Masters group, but it is tiny and I've said little more than 'good morning' to anyone there. But this forum has been fantastic! :applaud: LOTS of great tips and LOTS of wonderful friendly people! :agree:
