Is there a plan in place to renovate/replace/add to the TSC? I know when I was in school back in the mid 90's they had a plan for an outdoor pool where the parking lot is as well as a complete re-do of the TSC. That was nearly 20 years ago. The building is nearly 40 years old. Any ideas? rumors?

IMHO, what's needed is another INDOOR 50M pool attached to TSC with another 25Y x 25M warmup pool so you could run a BIG LCM meet there like Masters Worlds. It's a crime that the Carddinal has more cool pool toys than the Longhorns :) Stanford's endowment is 4 or 5 times largers than U Texas system on a per student basis. I think Texas' is actually larger in terms of total dollars, but you cannot compare the two schools in terms of what they have to spend per student.
  • I remember swimming there in 1977 when the TSC first opened. Wow, what a pool. I was also fortunate enough to swim there through college and beyond, 1983-1989. Wow, what a pool. And today.... Wow what a pool. Very few pools in the world come even close to comparing. There was talk of a new outdoor pool in the mid-80s. Never happened. FYI: Gregory Gym has an outdoor 12 lane, 25 yard pool. www.utrecsports.org/.../greaq.php I think for all the reasons stated above, outdoor swimming in Austin is not worth a new outdoor 50m facility. there's talk of the pool being built right behind the diving well. I've seen plans but haven't heard if and when construction will begin. here's a google maps view of gregory pools UT Recs sports & UT athletics are 2 separate fifedomes, Last I heard, UT Swim Teams are not permitted to have organized practices at Gregory. Swimmers can go to Gregory on their own as UT students There's also talk of a world class complex being built by the YMCA with cooperation of the city near the north west corner of lamar & Cesar chavez YMCA seeks Austin City Council's help in building new aquatic center
