I know there are a lot of superhuman swimmers here where 8,000yds per day, six days a week is just part of their day-to-day activities. (My shoulders hurt just typing that!) Many of us are more human and do something other than swimming. Consider me. My right shoulder was pretty wiped out at the end of March when the winter season ended, so I stayed almost completely away from the water until mid-October.
Here's where my suggestion comes in. Today, if I look at my Fitness log page it says:
My Go The Distance 2011 goal: 100.00 mi. Progress towards goal:
You'll need to pick up the pace to achieve your goal this year:
My goal pace: 99.45 miles required as of today to reach my goal by the end of the event
My actual current pace: 98.43 miles as of today
The FLOG calculator thinks I'm way behind because it's estimating my daily yardage over the entire year, thinking that I only swim 477 yards per day.
I think it would be better if the FLOG calculator confined its estimate of your expected yardage using just your yardage from the last 30 days or so.

I know this isn't an activity (so not as simple to implement I imagine), but ...
One thing I remembered after my initial post was the ability to display a linear view with the option to display comments in-line. I currently only use the FLOG to record my yardage/mileage. If I was able to see a historical view of my workouts (even just for the past 30 days or so) which included comments, I would probably record some workout details. I know I can create blog posts with my workout, but I have a) no interest in sharing my lame workouts with other people, and b) I don't think that would allow me to display a bunch of posts in one fell swoop for review.
Something like:
date
.. yardage details (if any)
.. comments (if any)
date
.. yardage details (if any)
.. comments (if any)
...
skipping those days with no data.
Thx,

If anyone has suggestions for additional activities to be included in the FLOG list, please post those here, too.
I just received an email from someone who requested that rowing be added to the list.
Excellent point. BTW: How do I access the fitness logs to set an achievable goal?? Have not been successful finding any link to get there.

I'm not sure they have anything like that, but this is what I did: I took what I could (at that time) easily do in a practice, and multiplied it by the approximate days I thought I would be swimming that year (you know, 3 days a week for 50 weeks or whatever) - and then I added a few yards. Then I looked at how the GTD calculator converted the yards to miles and rounded it further.
You can also do reverse math, like I know that x #yards + x #miles. If I swim 3 days a week, how far do I have to go for each workout? Ewww, that's too much, lets see what happens if I do four days a week? Etc. You can change your goal throughout the year, you know. :D
Very important (perhaps one of the most) suggestion would be number of hours sleep for the day
Actual sleep or hours in bed trying ( :bitching: )to :bed:? ;) But, that's a subject for an entirely different thread...
Deep water running! I wouldn't want to measure that as a function of time vs. distance (as it recently took me almost 20 minutes to "run" a 500), but by time would be great!
Never heard of deep water running, but it makes sense.
It's running in deep water with or without a special flotation belt. Your feet don't touch the bottom. Very effective for maintaining running-specific fitness for injured runners/multisport athletes.
