2012: Resolutions!

My resolutions: 1. Last month, I discovered "Go the Distance" and inputted all my yardage from the past year. With a week and a half left in the year, I have put in 660 miles. Looking at the top of the GTD results, I see that a "Don Tatzin" has the most mileage of anybody this year with 1685. That is almost 3 million yards. For 2012, I resolve to top 3 million yards and the GTD list. 2. Get under :50 in the 100 yard freestyle. PB stands at 53.13 from last July. My current season goal for the event is even harder, but that's between me and my coach. 3. Get under :23 in the 50 yard freestyle. PB stands at 24.58 from last July. Current season goal is even harder, " "... The NY resolution makes for a nice little stepping stone. 4. Attain a QT for a Grand Prix, even if it's not for this current GP season. 5. Become the best I possibly can within the confines of Jan 01 12 to Jan 01 13. I have no idea how ridiculous some of these might be, but with Darth Real Life all sorted out and logistics of classes and job all worked out, I still have a lot of extra time that can be spent at pools, for which I am very thankful. If you doubt me, I forgive you in advance (but I won't forget your words). What are your swimming New Year's resolutions? And if you don't believe in NY resolutions, then what do you think you can do to improve your swimming?
  • Well , after a vacation ----I gained 6 lbs. That did not help my goal of losing this year!!
  • Elainek We must swim at the same pool, had a bunch of new swimmers that swam once maybe twice. They are all gone, just the regulars. I think valentines day is the official resolution cutoff Yeah, I think you're right. My predictions were quite accurate, in regards to which noodlers and gym users would last and which ones wouldn't make it past 1 or 2 times, never to be seen again- until January 2, 2013. And, of course, the noodlers who screamed the loudest about not wanting to share the pool with me during their noodler sessions haven't been seen in a class since they (temporarily) won their battle, in 2010. :shakeshead: (:hijack: Footnote: They may have won the battle, but I won the war. :duel:. Common sense prevailed and I ultimately won back my right to swim in a dedicated swim lane during their classes and for swimmers to have 2 dedicated lanes at all times, as the rules were originally written. The noodlers that were :censor: who stuck with their resolutions and attend regularly have finally left me alone and we all get along just fine. Once they started treating me with some respect, I decided to play nice and move over to the wall lane during class, so the deep water noodlers could have my deep(er) lane. They even thank me now! :applaud: Yes, civility is finally alive, again, at our community pool.

  • Swimosaur, I like your goals and they are consistent with mine. So, do you mind if I add to your four for my own goals? I turn 50, in January, so I get to add #4 to my list. 5. In addition to those above, my GTD goal is 400 miles. (I swam 262 last year and I'm at 367 as of today; 92 miles over my original goal of 275 for the year.) But, I agree with Swimosaur: It has to be fun! It has been a blast, this year, so as long as I continue to feel the same way about swimming, I'm goin' for it! 6. Make NQT's (SCY) in the 100 breaststroke. (I already achieved it in the 50 and have given up on the idea of trying to make it in the 200. I'm too far off to make it attainable and training the 200 breaststroke is not fun for me.) 7. Making NQT's in the 50 free is probably too lofty of a goal, but I'm setting it, anyway. I will be happy if I just get faster and get a PB. (My PB is :33.29 and I would have to hit :31.03; too much of a drop, considering my Meniere's doesn't allow for me to do flip turns). 8. Compete in the maximum 8 individual events at Auburn, in February; something I have never done. (The most events I have ever competed in at a meet was 5 at a one-day Pentathlon or 5 at Auburn, a two-day meet.) 9. Continue to work on my backstroke (worst stroke) and butterfly and get PB's in the 50's of both strokes. 10. Finally meet Swimosaur at a meet! We have both been at Auburn and Georgia Tech (St. Nick's), as well as Nats. and have never met. So, Forumites, how are you doing on your 2012 Resolutions? We still have more than a month to achieve our goals! As for mine, this is where I am at so far: On Swimosaur's 1-4 that I resolved to do, as well: 1. Keep it fun- Achieved! 2. Swam in several SCY and 2 LCM meets; my SCM meet is coming up on December 15 3. Swam at Greensboro Nationals, not in Omaha. 4. Swam at two local Geezer Games and Georgia's state Geezer Games. I qualified for Nationals, however, I'm spending my $ to go to Mission Viejo, for USMS Nationals, instead. My five: 5. Achieved! I swam 400 miles as of last week and had fun doing it! 6. 7. :badday: 8. I also swam in two relays. :bliss: 9. :ohyeah: in both at Auburn, last February 10. :chug: & :smooch: for being a great guy, cheering me on in my races, and counting my 800 for me at Greenville. After my SCM meet, I'll start thinking about 2013! :D
  • I don't do New Year's resolutions, but it is time to set a new goal in Go The Distance. After analyzing this year's training volume (with heavier weighting given to the last few months of the year) and thinking carefully about what type of yardage volume I can sustain for a whole year, I have decided upon 1,234,567. :) It appears that I am going to hit this goal on Saturday. So next year I am going to shoot for the same number but in meters. Possible side effects include using strange words like "milliliters" and "kilograms," as well as a tendency towards Greenwich Mean Time. :blah:
  • YEAH !! The same old " lose 20 lbs" like I do every year. Now add do more fun stuff b4 I can't do it at all !
