or
Kate Ledecky, 14 of Curl-Burke, broke 2 13-14 NAG yards records at the
5th Annual National Age Group Team Challenge held at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center Nov 12-13.
She broke a 33-year-old record in the 500 freestyle 4:35.14 held by Sippy Woodhead from 1978 4:39.94
Then she went 9:29.81 in the 1,000 free breaking Michelle Richardson's 9:33.39, from 1984
Katie has OT cuts in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 free & will definitely be one to watch at trials.

I know that Rick is primarily known as a breaststroker/IMer, but my mind was blown by his 2:01 200 free. That, at 64 years old. In 6 weeks he could go for the 65+record of 2:15. Absolutely amazing.
Rick Colella continues to redefine what a swimmer in their 60s is capable of. Here are Rick's performances at day one of the NW Zone SCM Championship meet with the 60-64 world record per FINA's website in parentheses:
50 *** :31.51 (old world record 32.16)
200 free 2:01.65 (old world record 2:05.07)
mixed 400 medley relay 4:44.04 (*** split 1:10.68)
100 *** 1:09.92 (old world record 1:11.08)
men 400 medley relay 4:05.70 (*** split 1:14.41, obviously cruising because the next heat was...)
mixed 200 free relay 1:52.98 (anchor split 26.07)
That final relay deserves a special mention. That's a real drubbing of the old world record. The team was Charlotte Davis, Lisa Dahl, Donald Graham, and Rick Colella. It should also be mentioned this was the final event of the day. Everyone was tired and they still knocked off a 200 meter record by three seconds. Wow.
Stay tuned for today.
Clark Smith - In the 1650 freestyle at the Texas Invite, Smith was going for the 1000 split, with an eye on the American and NCAA records. He ended up shattering both of them, coming in at 8:33.93, well clear of the American record of Erik Vendt (8:36.49) and the NCAA record of Michael McBroom (8:43.48).
Great swim...great genes
Ridiculous:
Katie Ledecky swims the first-sub 9:00 1000: (8:59.65)
swimswam.com/.../
From the SwimSwam story,
"she was out in 4:30.90 to the 500 and actually negative split the race, coming home in 4:28.75 over the final 500 yards. As individual 500s, those would rank as the 8th and 5th fastest 500 yard freestyles in history."
The 5th fastest 500 in history as the back half of a 1000, and she owns the other 4.
Her last 50 in that race was 25.52. That time would qualify for Nationals for MEN 40-45. Think about that for a moment......
There have been some noteworthy swims this past weekend:
Impressive:
Michael Andrew gets the 15-16 NAG record in the 200 IM: (1:42.77)
swimswam.com/.../
Is Nolan's AR remotely possible?
Insane:
Ryan Hoffer gets the NAG record in the 100 free. (41.23)

My friend Avila Rhodes broke the 100m SC breaststroke world record 3 weeks ago in the 60-64 age group with a time of 1:26.35. She beat the 2002 record by 0.08 seconds.
