From the Today Show
Matt Lauer:
>>> we are just 240 days away from the opening ceremony of the 2012 london olympics. usa swimmers, ryan phelps, ryan lochte and katie franklin, natalie. you're unveiling something newell' be seeing in competition, i don't normally say could you please take your jacket off but would you please? what is this we're going to see?
>> this is the new speedo fs3 and this is the cap that goes with it, the and the goggles that go with it, i will show you.
>> why is this new and revolutionary?
>> because this is the first time it's a three-piece system that everything goes together so you buy it, the buy the cap, the goggles, the suit and makes you more hydrodynamic and it has a body stability web which compresses you.
>> we're going to see more of it and talk to you about where you guys are in training as you prepare for london, but first these messages and your local news.

Was Phelps on the 2nd hour of the Today show? If so, swimming is getting pretty mainstream. Before Athens, Phelps would be regulated to the 3rd hour. Oh wait, Lauer interviewed him so it was pretty the second hour.
Lots of vague percentages and fancy buzzwords. Synergy? Really? Kind of a stretch to call it a "3 piece system". ...
They definitely have some fast swimmers using the product. But overall, it looks like a lot of marketing hype to me. Bingo.
I kind of feel sorry for Michael ... after he railed against the old tech suits, here he is pimping himself for new tech suits and helping to sell the promise that the suit matters? Have some ideological consistency, Mike.
That's probably because I'm jealous that I'll never be able to afford cool stuff like that.As a guy, you don't need to buy into the hype anyhow because we're just wearing jammers. What percentage of our bodies are covered by jammers? Not a lot? I'm also not a fluid dynamics guy, but I would hypothesize that the drag effects would be minimized more by covering up those wide shoulders and massive chests than our thighs.
For the record, I LOVED the old tech suits and would go back to my Nero comp bodysuit in a heart beat. I'd also probably be considering a new breed of tech suit if I was female and had most of my body covered. With jammers, I'm still not convinced there's much incremental benefit for a guy over a good $100 TYR Tracer Light / old school paper suit.
The male suit comes up higher than most suits--nearly to the navel. I guess the thinking is the suit should cover as much of your body as allowed by the rules.

Which is exactly why I don't spend the money like that. I'll spend $20-25 for a suit to race or practice in. Yingfa is right in my budget that way. I can get 4 of them and still save money over the $100+ suits. I'll race in briefs too. Not a big deal to me, but I also never used any of the full body suits either. I did like the full leg suit I played around with my first few months of masters, but I wasn't in good enough shape to really make good use of it though. :(

From speedo's web site:
"Speedo FASTSKIN3 Super Elite Goggles
Designed utilising accurate 3D global head scanning data, Speedo FASTSKIN3 Super Elite Goggles deliver unparalleled accuracy of fit, leak resistance and comfort and redefine goggle aesthetics and technology. With unique IQ FIT seal and strap and Dive Stream outer profile that improves the contours of the swimmer’s head, localised force is reduced by up to 63.4%, minimising the risk of goggle movement during a swim. The goggles also feature a Hydroscopic Lens that offers 180⁰ peripheral vision."
With this Hydroscopic Lens , I'll be able to watch my own feet and kick for the first time while swimming/racing, that is instead of the swimmers' feet and kick in the adjoining lanes that I'm all too often seeing :D.
You are presenting an old article as new. The FINA suit rules went into effect 2 days after this was published.
However since the ban went into effect, the LibMu board has remained open and still getting comments as of a couple of days ago.
My point is that there is still a lot of negative reaction to the idea of tech suits and many of the comments suggest going back to the old school -IE- pre 90s suits.
