Anyone who can make one of those cuts without being proficient at a racing start is my new hero.

This is the first call for volunteers for the 2012 Austin Grand Prix, the upcoming meet at the Texas Swim Center January 13-15, 2012.* This is a very prestigious meet which will feature over 40 USA Swimming National Team members and Olympians including Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Natalie Coughlin, Brendan Hansen, and Janet Evans. We hope you are able to come watch some very fast swimming and help us showcase our world-class facility and program. It is very important to the success of Longhorn Aquatics and our meets that our members volunteer. Without volunteers we are forced to hire outside help which will increase our operational costs. Please help by signing up. Additionally, it is crucial that you work the shifts you have signed up for; trying to fill spots at the last minute causes a huge burden on the meet staff and ultimately affects the quality of our meets.
*
IMPORTANT NOTES (PLEASE READ):
·******** Absolutely no requests for autographs on deck by our volunteers. The pool deck needs to a secure place for these athletes to prepare for their races. If you ask for an autograph you will be asked leave the deck and your volunteer points will be voided.
·******** Sunday is a long session and the start time is 8:30am, though we will release volunteers as soon as possible during the 1500’s and hours worked past 1:30pm will be added to your total.
·******** All volunteers receive a t-shirt and we ask that you wear it while on your shift. Please allow time to pick up your t-shirt. If you work multiple shifts, please wear bring it back for the following shift.
·******** Our timelines are long and we need to be on schedule for TV taping (NBC), we really need everyone to be punctual to get the sessions started on-time.

SOME JOBS*REQUIRE*TRAINING - INTERESTED? THEN SIGN UP FOR TRAINING
Clerk of Course and Computer require training before you will be allowed to volunteer for them.* If you are interested in training for these positions, please email me with (1) what position you're interested in and (2) what session you're available.*If a trainer will be available, I'll set that up.* Training time counts toward your volunteer requirement, so long as you return to work in that position later in the season.***
A few odds and ends:
* TXLA OFFICIALS. Please register your intent to be on deck by using SuperMeets.* This helps facilitate getting your volunteers points recorded.* If*all the official slots are taken, please email*me and I can add more slots.* We*can always use more*officials on deck.
**WANT TO BE AN OFFICIAL? *South Texas*is always looking for volunteers interested in being officials.* Having TXLA-based officials also helps with our USA Swimming Club rating.* Of course, volunteering as an official requires training also.**Contact Ann Nellis to inquire further.
*
* SYSTEM LOCKS.* Sign-up deadline is*1/10/12 at 6:00pm. Changes to your schedule after that need to be*communicated*via a phone call*to the Swim Center 471-7771.

*
Thanks for volunteering - see you at the pool!
Guess who is entered in the 400IM???? Going to be interesting to see where he is coming into the final stretch.
Man, look at the top 8 women in the 100 Free, wow, who's who of American sprinters.
Guess who is entered in the 400IM???? Going to be interesting to see where he is coming into the final stretch.
That is definitely a surprise. Although who knows - if this is just a training meet for him his coach might be making him do it for kicks.
I think Mark Gangloff entered a yards time in the 50 free (21.01). I think it is funny that even at a meet at this level people make that mistake (or his coach did).
It looks like USMS swimmer and formuite chowmi is the oldest in the meet, in the 50 free:
122 Chow, Michelle H 43 Dallas Mustangs-NT 27.73 _____
She might be in the same heat with another, er ah um, mature person:
119 Blackburn, Lisa M 40 Una T2-FL 27.72 *____
(The meaning of the astersk is not clear to me.)
Blackburn is also in the 200 ***, 100 ***, 100 free and 200 IM. Her best seed is 30th, in the 100 ***.
The most senior swimmer in the mens 400 IM is actually in the top 8!
8 Yabe, Diogo O 31 BSS-FL/Ix3 4:21.49 _____
The same is true in the womens 100 back:
6 Molina, Fabiola P 36 BSS-FL/Ix3 1:00.43 _____
May age and experience beat youth and vigor!
