SPMA Zones bigger than Nationals?

I've not done any analysis to see if left coasters & westerners were disproportionately under-represented on the Auburn psych sheets, but wondering if the SPMA/Southwest Zone meet (www.clubassistant.com/.../meet_information.cfm might garner a bigger turnout than Nationals? Who's going to Mission Viejo?
  • Only four? I know sprinters, I've worked with sprinters. You're no sprinter. No argument here, man. :chug:
  • I'd venture to say that no LMSC or Zone would present a schedule like this if they were hosting a National Championships. You've got that right, sister! There is actually a paragraph in the rulebook (503.5) that addresses this issue, but it uses the phrase "should not" as opposed to "must not" for scheduling a zone championship meet one week before or one week after Nationals. Therefore the rule has no "teeth." Part of the surcharge to enter Nationals goes to USMS, so the more people who enter Nationals the more $$ USMS makes. Jeff
  • Unfortunately that meet is the same day as Fat Salmon! That should be a fun weekend. I'm doing the Fat Salmon on Saturday and the Postal 5K on Sunday. I believe Monday will be a rest day after that! That's too bad Kirk...This would be your best chance to slaughter me up and down the pool a few times. With all your age group workouts, and my lack of almost any swim workouts...it would've been fun!! :) I am doing "easy" events though. 50, 200, 400 Free, and 200 IM. All easy for me on a limited workout plan. BTW...deck entries are allowed in the Inland NW at all our meets. Anyone who wants to show up in Spokane on the 23rd is welcome! link to the meet: www.usms.org/.../event.php

What a pleasant post. Geez, someone woke-up cranky this morning. Aah, two posts in a row that add -- what -- to the discussion? Are either of you going to either meet?

About as much as you added. Are you going to either meet? yup.
  • That's too bad Kirk...This would be your best chance to slaughter me up and down the pool a few times. Don't worry, there will be other chances! :ohyeah:
  • Don't worry, there will be other chances! :ohyeah: I sure hope so...because I'm not just going to let you win anything the easy way. Bring the pain!! I'm ready for it!! :bliss:
  • You call that easy? Let me show you how it's done: I entered the 50 fly, 50 back, 50 free, and 100 free! Also, I will be complaining about exactly four of these topics (so choose carefully): event order, bulkheads (or lack thereof), sunburn (or lack thereof), lane assignments, water depth, water temperature, large competitors, taper length, rest between events, the suits, the government, alien abductions, the Higgs Boson, cold fusion, and of course, forumites who complain. Hey if I'm gonna be a sprinter for a day, I gotta do it right! Yep...that's easy all right! In fact...I'd call that a waste of a drive to come all the way over to Spokane to compete for a total of approx. 2 minutes 34 seconds. We'll see how close I come with my estimate after the meet happens. :) As far as the 4 choices from above...Hmmmm... 1) probably large competitors in the 50 Free (cause I'm bigger than you) 2) taper length...because you're tapering now for Gil Young and won't be able to hang onto it for another 2 weeks afterward. Ahah!!!...now I see why you're swimming only the 50s at the meet. You're scared of the pain! HAHAAHAHa!!! 3) Probably alien abductions...in that area of Spokane, things can get a little dicey just past the railroad tracks... :afraid: 4) I guess I'll throw in sunburn...I don't think you've been outside from the cubicle at work in a while...middle to end of July in eastern Washington can be a little toasty. Better start working on the tan ahead of time!
