Is this doable or crazy

I qualified in the 400 IM, 200 free and 50 *** for SCY Nationals. Is it crazy to think I can do back-to-back-to-back events? I have a change of scoring in the 400 IM but doubtful in the other 2 events so they aren't as important to me. This will be my first SCY Nationals so I don't know what time to expect in between events.

  • Will there be men's heats after the women's or will they be running this meet men on one end and women on the other? If they are doing it men after women, then I'll be fine. I did 400 IM and 200 free back-to-back at LC Nats in Portland and had a PR in both events. But I was worried that if they were running the men and women separately then the heats will come faster. Events will run in order. So Men's 400 IM will not start until all the heats from Women's 400 IM are completed. They will run an 'odd' and 'even' course so heats 1,3,5,7,etc will run in one course starting with 1 and heats 2,4,6,8,etc will run immediately following the earlier odd numbered heat. Using 2009 Nats timeline as a rough guide, I would expect that Women's 400 IM start at 8am, Men's 400 IM would start at about 8:40am, then the Women's 200 Free would start at about 9:35am, Men's 200 Free at about 10:20am, Women's 50 Br at about 11:35am ending at about 11:55am. So based on this VERY rough timeline, you should be in the water for the 400 IM at around 8:25am, 200 Free at about 10:00am, 50 *** at about 11:45am. So you should have at least an hour and a half between events. I wouldn't be able to pull that schedule off but I think you have a better ability to recover than I do so you should enough time to be ready for your next swim. Something to consider is marking your 200 Free as your 6th event just in case. Unless the 200 is one of your favorites. Since I'm swimming the 200, I will do what I can to give you additional rest.
