Do you mean a Lat pulldown or a Vasa Trainer. Vasa trainers are great and will REALLY work your lats right at the armpits. However, they aren't cheap unless you find a good used one.

RE: Dryland Freestyle Endurance

You are better off just getting into a gym that has some basic equipment. Being a distance swimming in HS & college I didn't do a ton of weights (2x week, high reps). You are better off sticking to these kind of things:

-Run (the more the better...without injury)
-Surgical Tubing (aka. stretch cords) to mimic strokes
-Medicine balls
-Core Exercises
-Stretch

anything that pushes your endurance is gonna be great. I do a little of all this stuff and I also like to Kayak (great workout) on the lake by our home. Biking (either road or Mountain) would be good too. I like to mix it up. However, all of this is only to "supplement" the swimming, no substitute for getting in the H2O and putting in the yards.

RE: Dryland Freestyle Endurance

Sounds like a Bowflex, but with plates instead. The Bowflex uses poles that bend for resistance.

RE: Dryland Freestyle Endurance

Do you mean a Lat pulldown or a Vasa Trainer. No I've done both of those this is different. What I was looking at is a thing where you've got two handles on wires over head with a pully system so it lifts the plates as you pull down on the handles. I'm not sure of the proper name, but the handles are free to move around on the wires. It just seemed like a motion quite similiar to freestyle pulls would be possible. Thanks,
