The whole thing takes about 8-9 hours but with a 4 person relay it only comes out to around 4 shifts per person (as opposed to a 6 person relay which is less time in the water). I was a boat monitor on the relay course this year and have seen how challenging this can be, especially with currents (not always at your back) and time limits. I have one local person so far, but will need others to fill out the team (and possibly an alternate). I live in northern NJ and am just a short drive to NYC, but you may need to arrange for transportation and lodging. We would also split the entry fee which would come out to about $575 per person. Although they have not finalized the qualification requirements for 2013, I expect them to be same as this year so you would need a timed documented OW swim of at least one mile from this summer.
