the rules say " The regulation divisions will be conducted according to the long distance swimming rules of United States Masters Swimming. " and USMS says "the new USMS swimming attire rules. men can wear jammers (nothing above the navel or below the knee) and women can wear a regular swim suit with the jammers (but nothing covering the shoulders or the neck). here is the link: ">www.usms.org/.../part3.pdf" So I think that means knee skins but not leg skins but check with the race director if you really really want to wear them.

Regarding the Tour of the Buoys, can men wear Speedo Fastskins? I'm not going to win any awards either way, but would like to wear them for this race. Thanks.

Actually, I'm planning on swimming the Tour of the Buoys next month www.lajollacoveswimclub.org/.../ToBInfo.htm. September is the San Diego Triathlon Classic so I need to save my energy for that. Then you will have to join the swim club anyway! Some of the foundign members like Bob West meet most weekend mornings at 9 show up and ask for him or other club members. Joining doesn 't obligate you to do anything more.

Plenty of people swim solo there, but, if you're new to OW, I'd recommend trying to swim with someone else. Even better ... come out for the greatest open water swim in the country and do either the 1 mile or the Gatorman @ www.ljrws.com.

Why wouldn't you join the LJCSC? For a mere $20, you get all sorts of benefits. If I lived in SD, I'd join in a hearbeat. They have a swim buddy page: lajollacoveswimclub.org/SwimBuddyPage.html I've been at the cove a few times over the past 2 years or so, and there are several small groups that seem to go out at all different times year round so I'm sure you can just show up & chat up some people there. I wish I could get to the cove more often but I settle for the Santa Monica Bay.
