I would guess that the water temp will be pretty decent for swimming (~80ish). According to this website for Patterson Lake: www.fishingnotes.com/lakeinfo.php the water temp is currently 71 (estimated). But I think that this is the temp some level below the surface (it is a fishing site). I looked up a lake near me, and it said the current temp is 76, but having same there last week, it was 84. Certainly the connector areas between lakes will be warmer. I'm registered, so I'll be there.

Not having it this year. I received an email directly from the Elkhart county Humane Society, they had no sponsor this year...told them that myself and two daughters had wanted to swim there...said they would put it on adgenda for possbile swim next year. Because of that I have no swims left which is what lead me to post this to begin with...gotta find a swim, right now the one in Central Ill looks like a good option.

Wasn't there a 5K/10K in Elkhart, Indiana last year. I seem to remember it being the week after Big Shoulder's. It was a fund raiser for dogs I think. I really didn't hear about it till a couple days before. I forget the name of the lake. I know this is vague but I do remember reading about it and even looking at an entry form. Not sure about water temps for Swim to the Moon, but i'm thinking mid 70's. It's late August in a small lake. Gotta be warm on the surface.

Swim to the moon looks very interesting...any idea on water temps? cause I am a real wuss when it gets below 74 degrees, and am not interested in wearing a wetsuit.

Don't know about organized swims per se, but I'm more than happy to meet you and yours at the Indiana Dunes State Park or further downshore towards Michigan City. I swim there whenever my brother is in town and I can talk him into it. Know the good spots where the water is cleaner. I'm up for anything between 500 to 3000. Will be moving to NW Michigan mid-August, so before then.

aren't the madison, wi & point-to-lapoint open water in August?... coastal crawl at Harbor Springs, MI - august too? or late July? best of luck to mallory and great effort with the Maxinkuckee swim!

Rest of the GLOWS swims are coming up. Point to LaPointe registration has closed, and no Harbor Springs 10k this year (they might still do a local, community event; I didn't ask). August 7: CIOWS swim in central Illinois.
