A 2km swim in the channels surrounding Christiansborg, the Danish parliament. Christiansborg is located right in the center of wonderful Copenhagen. Really great event!

If once is not enough, there&#39;s a 10 km event too, 5 times around the castle.

Round Christiansborg takes place for the 5th time on August 28th 2010.

In 2009 almost 1000 swimmers crossed the finishing line. Lots of noodlers, but also some of Denmarks best competitive swimmers dived in (including olympic participants). Fastest swimmer: 24 minutes. Slowest swimmer: 1h48m.

The water will be around 20 degrees Celcius in August, wetsuits are allowed and recommended in the 2km event.

In the 10 km event, wetsuits are not allowed if intending to swim for the Danish 10 km Championship - otherwise wetsuits are allowed and recommended.

See you all there :D

Though as noted on another thread, we have some great swims. (Sandycove, Inishboffin, Lough Sheelin, Clew Baay etc)...

I see that Fiji is in the lead. having swam there all I can say is that it is too hot for swimming very hard. We are talking bath water temperatures.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: munatones - overseas open water swims

Ireland isn&#39;t on the list?

In a recent USMS Swimmer Magazine article, I wrote about different unique open water swims around the world - many of these events were events that many American swimmers have not yet heard about. I wrote the article under the assumption that most open water swimmers around the world have heard about the ocean swims in Australia. Ocean swims in Australia, magnificant open water swimming opportunities, have been going on for nearly a century. From short (Lorne Pier to Pub) to long (Rottnest Channel Swim), Australians host hundreds of remarkably fun, competitive and massive ocean swims. No country does it better than Australia. But I figured that most swimmers around the world already knew that, so I wrote about swims that people may not know. I did not mean to disrespect or ignore the Australian open water swimming events, it was simply a matter of informing Swimmer Magazine readers about lesser-known events.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: munatones - overseas open water swims

Certainly Australia.
How about Iceland(Sounds cold, I know) but it&#39;s one of the coolest places on Earth and although they are not known for their beer, they have plenty of it.
Not to mention that with their economic collapse, getting there and staying there is a lot cheaper than it used to be.
Iceland also has a Marathon and a few diving adventure if swimming there isn&#39;t enough.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: munatones - overseas open water swims

every &#39;port of call&#39; would be a fantastic experience...

I was there a few years ago and swam from Vernazza to Monterroso (a much faster mode of travel than hiking, as it turned out). It was such a gorgeous swim that I decided, if I ever returned, I&#39;d do the whole thing.

If it could be considered &quot;overseas&quot;... the Na Pali Coast of Kauai (~16 miles) would be another tremendous swim -- in the summer months, at least (gets pretty wild in winter). It&#39;s quite commonly kayaked, but I haven&#39;t heard of anyone swimming it.
