I had a rule I tried to follow, never train in water below 60. I broke this rule when I lived in Northern Quebec, I would train in the La Bostinnais River and Lac St Louis the day the ice went out which was about April 15th.

RE: suit question

Wet suit for Florida for warmth???

RE: suit question

65 is ideal for me. But if that's too cold for you, I do recommend starting w/ something like a Blue Seventy that does minimal heat trapping.

When I jump in 65 degree water I curse. . . loudly. After a few minutes, it feels good. When I jump in 85 degree water, I say "aaahhh". Then within a few minutes of swimming I curse because I'm burning up.

RE: suit question

65 degrees is not bad for many, though some folks are cold in 80.
ask 10 swimmers and you will get 10 different opinions of what "cold water" is.... therefore; i would recommend you should start with the minimum of heat trapping suits, and take it from there. you might find 65 to be just fine after a 5 minute adjustment period in just a brief (also, you will look less like shark food)

RE: suit question

I'm actually interested in what would be good to keep me warm in those temperature waters, would i need a full wetsuit, john, core type trisuit or something similar? I'm not familiar with these temps here.
