At the Lake Champlain swim this past summer, I met a woman who was looking to organize a 10-miler for a different Vermont lake. If you&#39;re on this forum, I&#39;d love to know what&#39;s going on with that, or if you need any help. I&#39;m itching to do

RE: Looking for the woman interested in 10-mile swim in Vermont

Anyone else signed up for this yet?
I committed two days ago, and now feel like I&#39;m already behind in my training...<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Looking for the woman interested in 10-mile swim in Vermont

regarding the little red lighthouse swim:
it is 5.85 miles, but swims more like a 5k with the current assist. this year we swam north to south which i think makes the exit easier. there is a shallow cove at ft washington park that supports a back eddy if one moves in too soon, and if you wait too long.... they might be pulling you out in yonkers!

anyway, it is my favorite of the manhattan island foundation events.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Looking for the woman interested in 10-mile swim in Vermont

Leonard, if you do the Little Red Lighthouse swim maybe I will see you there. As I plan on making the trip from Indiana to NY for the swim in 2009. I will be accompanied by my soon to be Freshman in College daughter, and my recently graduated from College daughter (who won the race when she was 14) for the swim. It use to be 7 miles, now like 5 miles. But with the Current assists looks to be about a 2.5 mile swim (based on times last year). I have never done any swim like this before, so may need you to pull my butt out of trouble. :)<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Looking for the woman interested in 10-mile swim in Vermont

Have you done the Swim for Kids before? Any sense of why it was cancelled last year?
It sounds interesting...

No to both questions. I was thinking of doing it last year, but the cancellation ended that. It&#39;s not a race, but even a long &quot;tourist swim&quot; is better than doing yet another 1 mile.

I was there with her....isnt that a coincidence. That swim by the way lead to her swimming the Manhattan Island Marathon, a couple of years later and the English Channel this last Summer. She is young and fast, I am old and slow....but steady. Hope to see you there.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Looking for the woman interested in 10-mile swim in Vermont

Leonard, if you do the Little Red Lighthouse swim maybe I will see you there. I did it in &#39;02 - back when it was still about 7.8 miles. Great fun and hairy as all get out, which made it even more fun. The year I did it about 10% of the field was DQ&#39;ed for being swept past the finish area. I BARELY made it into the finish area myself. I also had a kayaker run right over the top of me just as I turned into the finish area.

Yes, I will try to keep this on the schedule and hope to see you there. I bet we can probably talk David Barra into showing up as well. Pray for good weather.

Are there any folks getting ready for 5+ mile swims for this coming summer? I&#39;m planning on now, this 10-miler, the Lake Champlain 8-mile swim, and some others, but I&#39;d like to do some other races that are at least 5+.
Anything anyone is planning on?

If I am able to get in adequate training, I&#39;d like to do some of these. The last few years have been a challenge, though. Anyway, here are some candidate swims for me:
Swim for Kids (8 mile, NJ)
Potomac River Swim (7.5 miles, MD)
Swim For Life (5 miles, MD)
Boston Light Swim (8.5 miles, MA)
VT 10-miler (a long shot, but...)
Little Red Lighthouse (5+ miles, NYC)

Maui would be so exciting. We&#39;ve thought about it, but it&#39;s a bit of schlep with the boy.
We haven&#39;t made any real plans--until hearing about this swim. Of course, the debate is doing this and then Lake Champlain two weeks later.
Hope you are well. We&#39;re off for a day of skiing--fresh snow here!

Swims of varying distances up to 10 miles. Does anyone know if the lake has leaches or Moray eels?

One Julie Gunn is among the contact people (in case the name rings a bell with first poster).
