Never done an open water event there though. What I can say is that Lake Harriet is beautiful. When we were kids we would go there to swim and canoe, I highly recommend it.

Another good lake is Busch Lake over by Edina but I don't think they have any open water events.

Lake Minnetonka is an unknown for the most part. Went boating there many years ago, suspect there is a lot of traffic there nowadays.

In general, the urban lakes in the Twin Cities are very nice and clean. Anybody who swims there will likely have a good time.

Now if they could just get LCM Masters Nationals at the U of M again...

RE: Land of 10,000 Lakes

:groovy:Anyone familiar with the Lake Harriet 5 mile swim, Minnetonka, MN? I believe you are confusered. There's a 1- or 2-mile in Lake Harriet and a 5-mile in Lake Minnetonka. The former is a fine race, but I haven't done the latter. I do know that you need to line up a canoe escort for the 5-mile.
