I was wondering if any of you might have a link to the results of the USMS 10K Open Water Championships held at Clemson this past Saturday. I looked on the Clemson Aquatic Team website but cannot find any information.

Thanks!

What did you use for sunblock?

Actually, I could go the other route completely. If I get a spray-on tan, I think I could enter some body building contests. I think I&#39;ll be the only one there who is never in the weight room but still has the guns. :D

I used the Bullfrog Waterproof quick drying gel (I think it&#39;s something like SPF 35) and I used Banana Boat Waterproof Sunblock Cream for faces. I did not get burned at all. Hi Rhoda,

Surprisingly, yes. The suit was very comfortable! And it was new and a size smaller than what I&#39;ve had in the past (size 28). I chose it based on pics I saw online of OW women swimmers who had completed some 10Ks or longer. They also happened to win their races. It is tight on land and when you are dry; however, once I got in the water, it was fine. I used body glide around the legs and strap area. That was it. This suit gave me some lift without my losing my feel for the water.

I did try one of the blueseventy suits (pointzero3); however, I did not like that suit for this particular race. It was black and I was concerned about overheating in the hot sun and warm water (that&#39;s why I chose a silver colored fastskin). When I tried the suit at noon in an outdoor pool, I heated up rather quickly. I also timed myself in some sprints and I was not any faster. Although it was float-y and kept my legs up higher; I felt I had an ineffective kick and I knew I would be sprinting the last part of the race. I also lost my feel of the water in the suit and that bothered me. But, it&#39;s still a great suit as the guy who came in after me was wearing one - I think it was the Nero 10K or Nero Comp. And, many people have done wonders in this suit. It just wasn&#39;t for me for this race.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Results from the USMS 10K Championships?

Kristina...it was great to see you too, you did incredible!! Chris Glass Hartley

You looked great Chris. I think I tell you every time I see you that you are completely ageless. Some people just get all the good genes.
CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING A LONG DISTANCE NATIONAL CHAMPION!!!!

I never would have guessed in a million years that we would both be swimming now. I remember complaining to you every day when we were kids about how sucky practices were. :lmao: Too bad we don&#39;t run into any more of our old swim buddies. . . We should get together for lunch sometime. My treat and we can catch up on all the gossip. My brother lives out where you are I believe.

I don&#39;t know if I&#39;ll finish that 25K. In all honesty, I think I just like taking mini vacations with my husband.

Tell me all about Worlds!?<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Results from the USMS 10K Championships?

Oh my lord!! :D

It was really fun wasn&#39;t it? It was so nice to see so many familiar faces - you, Chris Green, his son Collin, Keith Berryhill, Christina Hartley from the RAYS, Matt Rose from Dynamo/ Emory, David Eng from AWJ . . .

Leonard was so instrumental in my swimming this SMART. Had I not spoken to him prior to a race like this I would have gone out too fast AND I would have not hydrated during the race. So thank you for all the very wise advice!! Leonard was so inspirational that I did send in my entry for the USMS 25K in 5 weeks. I hope to finish but we&#39;ll see. . . My training has really surrounded pool swimming, but oh well. . .

Kristin, I wish we could get a group of us to do this together! Maybe we can host the event near us one year and get a bunch of us to swim it. Isn&#39;t this something that the Kesters would love?! But again, great job Kristin. I think you should try a 25K!<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Results from the USMS 10K Championships?

These are the &quot;unofficial&quot; results, I&#39;m guessing the official results will be posted on their website in the next few days. Thanks so much for the links. I did do the swim -- my first 10K. It was not nearly as painful or as boring as I thought it might be. I actually think the shorter races are harder (of course, I am somewhat slow and that&#39;s probably why :-) ). Hope your 3K went well!<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Results from the USMS 10K Championships?

Partial result: (S)he-man (A.K.A. her alias of Kristina) got 2nd overall and first woman in 2:19.

Yes, I am fortunate enough to know Kristina and have actually followed her in a lane at practice (I am NO WHERE NEAR her speed :laugh2:), and I am so happy that she did so well!<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Results from the USMS 10K Championships?

These are the &quot;unofficial&quot; results, I&#39;m guessing the official results will be posted on their website in the next few days. I need to do something about those guns!

I hope Landon doesn&#39;t see this! He may yell at me and tell me I didn&#39;t work it enough! :joker:

If you look behind me, you&#39;ll see Matthew Rose, a great competitor. His sister is Olympic swimmer Gabrielle Rose (and a great swimmer and triathlete in his own right), and he&#39;s one of the nicest guys you&#39;ll ever meet. He and I were head to head the entire way. It came down to the last 200 meters or so. I wish he was doing the 25K with me! Did you see him wearing the new blueseventy suit? He&#39;s a great walking advertisement for blueseventy.

Hey now, Ironman(gal)! The 25K is less than the Ironman/ Half Ironman that you&#39;ve done! This swim would be a piece of cake for you at least in terms of time.

I&#39;m not really sure as to what kind of yardage is required for a 25K. I&#39;ll let you know after I attempt it! I&#39;ve been averaging around 80 to 85 miles a month for a few months. . . I may do a few doubles (4 or so total) averaging around 14K a day just to prove I can handle race day of 25K. But not any more than that as I doubt I&#39;ll be able to recover. SR I swims about 6500 meters (if it&#39;s fly day) and up to 8,500 meters if it&#39;s distance free day. It&#39;s really the intensity and not the distance that&#39;s the challenge for me at least.

See you at SWAT!

Great job again to you as well. I think we&#39;ve both improved quite a bit over the past year. Debbie is a great masters coach and she gave me some good sighting tips before the swim.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Results from the USMS 10K Championships?

Hey Kristina,

You looked so fresh after the 10K! While I was searching for the results I found some photos taken by the Greenville paper. There&#39;s one of you coming out of the water, and it looks like you could have done another 15K! Here it is:

<a href="http://cmsimg.tribunetimes.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?NewTbl=1&amp;Avis=BS&amp;Dato=20080615&amp;Kategori=LINK&amp;Lopenr=806150803&amp;Ref=PH&amp;Item=58&amp;Maxw=550&amp;Maxh=500">cmsimg.tribunetimes.com/.../bilde</a>
You&#39;re going to do great in the 25K! Me, I know I&#39;m not quite ready for it... not sure that I ever will be in the right frame of mind -- what kind of yardage is required for that kind of swim?

See you at the pool!
