Just read the announcement for the 25th Annual Jack King One Mile Ocean Swim in Virginia Beach. That is a nice venue. I hope it will be possible to swim that. VB is not in the direct vicinity of Washington DC, but drivable. Maybe I'll have a go!

RE: swims in the USA

June 15. There is more to open waterswimming than oceanswimming! Sweetwater in Az is available so I was looking around a bit... My vacation does not extend to California. California is getting more attractive by the minute, but not an option this year. I do know I am in the deserts in Arizona, but isn't there an open water swim anywhere in the state or in the four state area? I see lakes on the map and have visited Lake Havasu (swimable) and the Colorado river (nay, not that swimable) before.
Still resarching,

This thread: forums.usms.org/showthread.php
under Arizona (scroll down) indicates one can swim in the Colorado River.

A tedious business, but if you look under each state and check for a swimming group or even a meet, there will likely be a contact name, and that person may know what is available locally.

By the way, there is some gorgeous mountain climbing (Bergwanderung, man kann auch steigen) available in the area you will be traveling to.

Good luck!

Most of the races on the following link are Southern California. mortonsaltreport.homestead.com/raceschedule.html

RE: swims in the USA

Thank you FatBoy,
